For the past year its always frustrated me that my temps were never consistant and that at times it would peak at 215 before cooling down. I have a Jet 180 T-Stat and proper fan settings. Over time I noticed my temps would fluctuate way too much as to where on my stock Cayenne it would hit 180 and stay there so of course this frustrated the heck out of me. Over the weekend at a car show I was sitting idle and noticed my temps were at 220, my windows were down and I could not hear the fan running so I popped the hood and checked the relays and they were HOT so I pulled the low speed fan relay out and swapped it with the high speed relay and it came on and went home. At home I used my jumper that I use at the track just to make sure the fan was okay and sure enough with the jumper both the LS and HS fan settings came right on. So I did some research online and noticed that the part # for the Fan Relays has be superceded to a new one

I checked with OReilys, Advanced, Napa, Autzone, none carried them they did have similar ones but they were listed by Amperage and just didnt seem right so OEM was the only option here especially with summer coming up did not want to take a chance.

Drove up to the dealership this morning after confirming they had them in stock, guy puts them on the counter and I noticed that they are 5 pronged vs 4 pronged that were in the originally. I go out to the jeep and pop one in to make sure it fits, it does so Im good. Pay, put the other one in (yeah went ahead and replaced both...you know Karma and here pattern). First thing I noticed on the way home was the fans came on when they were supposed to, stayed there and ran MUCH cooler. Not sure why Mopar went to 5 pronged but it works much better and problem solved.

So if you are overheating or just questioning if your t-stat is going bad or your fan bit the dust, start small and cheap and replace the relays first.

Thanks for posting this Wade. I am having the same problems you are with my Charger. Going to get some of these newer fuses and see what happens.

Okay, we just have a low and high speed fan setting no medium speed so between 0 mph and ? is low speed and what mph does the high speed fan come on, my thinking is there may be a lag or gap between the two allowing for a quick rise in temps before the fan comes on because around 45 mph it started to get warm so I gunned it up to 60 mph and the HS fan kicked on and it cooled back down. IDK just a thought

The low and high speed fans come on at certain temperature ranges, not mph.

haha, the threshold between low speed and not low speed is right at 8 mph.

True... but there's more! There are low and high speed fan settings for low speed mph. That would be <= 8 mph I think. Maybe they did that for stop and go traffic jam/city driving and maybe they figured that all the return lanes have a 5 mph speed limit on them at the track

    AC Off
... High MPH HS fan on
... High MPH LS fan on
... High MPH MS fan on
... Low MPH HS fan on
... Low MPH LS fan on
... Low MPH MS fan on
    AC On
    ... HS fan on
    ... LS fan on
    ... MS fan on

It's ok, I know they took away your license to make any changes after that unfortunate incident with the lap top and all you're allowed to do is install locked custom tunes but you should have remembered that from the good ole days.
