Well, I had a fun filled day at SVS in Sacramento. I got my Wavetrac/3.23:1 gears installed as well as some dyno time in by Bob:

Extra big thanks to Cam and JonW. I bought a new set of blue giant injectors from Cam and he and JonW were able to get them shipped around, delivered here and there, and milled down and reshipped to SVS in like four days:

    Look mom, no more spacers!

One issue we will try to address tomorrow is a serious loss in apparent torque with this motor. I had 493 TQ on my wrecked motor. Today we ended up with a max of around 470...same heads, cam, everything etc. Bob said the motor sounds and runs perfect with almost no knock retard...A/F is perfect, bla bla bla. He did say I have an odd transmission issue - he said my TC doesn't appear to be locking in third gear, or it is delayed or something. I did install a Builder Bill valve body recently and it may be controlling things more than I know. He has seen a similar issue before where a TC lock-up issue seriously reduced dyno numbers.
We did a 4th gear dyno pull and HP/TQ figures came up and the converter was definitely locked here. We are going to look into things in more detail tomorrow as we ran out of time today.

Oh, here is my best markus imitation. He just WISHES he had guns like this! Get in the gym you pin arm markus! ;)

My eyes,my eyes.....I didn't need to see pics of your rear......lol. Could just be that the fresh motor is still a bit tight, and for some reason I wanna say the gear will affect torque......but I am not sure. I would drive it and enjoy it and re dyno in 4-5k miles....better yet ..get it to the track!

nice updates jon!!!! i had similar issues with a torque convertor after my blower install. found out on the dyno when it would not lock up in third as well.......

swapped out to a builder bill supplied unit and all was good!!!

Thanks guys for checking out my rear ;)

We both wondered about that too...I have 1200 miles on it. This is the third dyno with this heads/cam/intake/exhaust/TB. First was 465hp/488tq, brand new motor at DCXDestroyer. Second was 477hp/493tq at SVS with 6k on it. Today was like 450hp/458tq at SVS, brand new motor.

Bob was brake torquing the tc and using the dyno as a wall...when he was getting on the throttle a little the rpms were jumping when he said the motor should just be bogging...definite tc lock-up anomoly. It definitely locked up totally in 4th gear and gained like 15hp and 20tq on a 4th gear dyno pull.

No cats at all either...were removed with my original 426 install.

Chris, were you seeing differences in hp on the dyno when you swapped out converters?

HAHAHA. I'll be there before yeewww. :p

We are going to dyno tomorrow with the new gears and see what difference it makes. Then I want to pull my air intake off and do a pull while I watch the TB butterfly operate. After that I will have looked at pretty much all I can think of and it will be like Erik said...DRIVE IT.

Jon you might want to get a Mopar TCM if you don't already have one.....that will help with the converter lockup bigtime.

1200 miles!!!, damn dude, you ever drive that thing? We finished rebuilds about the same time, i've clocked 2800, and my commute to work is only 4 miles. I mostly drive my Jeep GC too, you must never get to enjoy the car.
Interesting to see your results, what converter do you have in there right now, how many miles on it? When you installed the motor, are you sure you had the dowel alignment pins in there for the bell housing to line up right? Crank bushing in rear of crank in there?
What was your max timing at WOT? Got any logs you wanna share?

Keep us posted on the rear end too...can't wait to hear your analysis.

Supplied by HHP...said "SYNERGEN" on it. (and THAT'S IT!!!) ;)

We talked about that...but it was the same converter I had on the previous motors also. Only change is the valve body. He ran into a similar issue with Matt's car and the MTCM fixed it, but they were on a 5.7 car to begin with.

Precision Industries 2800. It runs too smooth to be misaligned I think, and I do have the crank bushing in there. I will see what Bob can send me with as far as viewable logs. I was showing 2 or 3 degrees KR max.

It was all I could do to keep my foot out of it last night...rear gears need a small break in period, or so says the included sheet.

The break-in is taken care of when you back it out of the shop and pull down the driveway. After that, let'r RIP!! When we put new gears in my Mustang, I creeped down the alley (it was late), got to the street and dropped the hammer. To this day, absolutely NO whines...and that's 4.56s! But my installer is also a Ford 8.8 god and use tears from baby jesus as assembly lube. YMMV......
