True, just the explanations have been flimsy. Its really sad seeing them go down like this, as much as I don't like their product or mostly the people that tend to buy and drive them, I hate to see a company go down in flames like this.

This is true but we don't 100% know what has happened here. Its gonna take a while for the B.S. on both sides to subside. But I have a hard time believing that a company feels it can profit from not fixing a well publicized problem.

Also the bed Toyota had made up until now has been a very nice one. This is a question to any of you guys who have been a leader. Have you ever had a subordinate who was squared away, always did the right thing and was reliable. However after years of top notch service he fucked up. Maybe he got a DUI, maybe he fucked up his finances, was late to work. Do you hit him with the book, or do you take his service into account when deciding the punishment. What we have here is a lot of people who for years have been hateful and jealous of this achiever who want to make an example, so they can hope to advance in his place.

This is not an American vs Japanese, Enthusiast vs mobile appliance argument. This is about finding the truth, then decide what to do to prevent it from happening again. You don't discuss punishment before judgement, that is truly the American way. Innocent before proven guilty.

that wasn't so much a reference to how they're handling it as it was to the fact that with enough testing or perhaps better qc this problem probably would have manifested itself before the cars hit the showroom.

Here is what I think is the scariest part of this whole mess...like was stated before, so much on today's cars are run by computer. Like that cars that parallel parks itself, totally convenient plus who likes parallel parking anyways? Or the cars that start breaking themselves "if the driver fails to", or the car that detects objects in your blindspot, and tells you about it, and even won't let you lane change. Doesn't it make you all warm and fuzzy and feel so much safer? That is until something like this happens...and you realize how much control you have lost to the cars computers. All the latest and greatest technology is awesome...'til something :censored: up.

No matter what, Toyota made American cars better. Competition is good, and GOOD competition is even better. I personally would hate to see them go out completely. They may not be an American company, but MANY Americans jobs depend on Toyota's well being.

Just finished reading the 911 call transcript regarding the runaway Prius. The gentleman was told several times to place the vehicle into neutral and seemed to ignore the operator. He also was told to shut the vehicle off but was afraid "of losing power steering" :bs:. An anonymous leak says preliminary black box data say both the brake and the gas was pressed at the same time and the throttle and the brakes did not remain at 100% the whole time. This means the throttle was functioning, and the guy was riding the brakes and the throttle to make it look like he was out of control. Stay tuned this could be funny. (Also look at what he has on his jacket...guess he likes Corvettes):bigwink:

    I smell balloon boy.

Also keep in mind there has been no complaints regarding runaway acceleration in the Prius in any other country. We get the same imported model as the rest of the world with little change. If this is true and the guy is faking it, it could hurt those who might actually have a problem.

Like I said this is runaway Audi Part II

Why don't you just read the reports. The guy is a fraud, it is obvious. The E-brakes on those things are mechanical, he didn't even try them. Also the Prius has 90hp, the brakes will easily override the throttle. I'm sorry but some of these accusations are getting pathetic. If there is a real problem I want it fixed, but average americans see these problems as a way to make a quick buck or get out of a loan. You are not paranoid if the problems are real.

I just dont take Jalopnik too seriously.....I dont know for a fact but in my opinion Toyota is hidng something or is stalling for time....speaking with a friend who is a service manager for Toyota reinforces what I read..

Jalopnik has been on an anti-Toyota rampage for months now. So when they even feel suspicious, you might want to take notice. I'm not even defending Toyota or discrediting other issues, I'm just saying this guy is no different from the balloon hoaxer, he has a lot to gain from a lawsuit. No one outside the U.S. has complained about unintened accleration from the Prius, it has a totally different computer setup and pedal system than any other Toyota. It can be easily stopped by its brakes even at full throttle, this has been tested several times this week. Put bias aside, what this guy experienced was either complete stupidity on his part or he is a liar. I choose the latter, because he is a shitty actor.

A service manager is not an engineer, I used to be a service tech too (aka parts changer).

Well technically I still am, except I work on 20 Million dollar Aircraft instead of cars.

You should read the story in the link I provided earlier. It proves beyond a doubt there is something wrong...since the guy driving managed to get his vehicle to a dealership with the WOT thing still happening.

Of course, it also proves that it is very possible to bring it to a safe stop. Hell..this guy managed to drive his vehicle to a dealership by manipulating the brakes and tranny (in and out of nuetral)

I'm sure there are a lot of money hungry frauds out there trying to get out of their loan (like the bugatti in the pond incident) but there is a very real problem with toyotas drive-by-wire system, and it needs to be addressed.

What. What difference does it make if this guy is for real or a fraud/fake? You don't expect there won't be at least a few fraud/fake cases? With all the publicity and hype? People just looking to get themselves in the news or trying for a payoff? It's expected noise and doesn't say ANYTHING about the problem or not. What's your point?

I expect the graph looked exactly the same for the firestone tire thing too. I don't think that turned out to be a complete scam.
