alright so i just bought the GC SRT8 which most of you already know....now my questions is... i noticed that on all the srt's....all models... they come with slotted rotors. my brothers 300 srt had a slotted rotor upgrade, and the chargers come with them and i definitely know that the challengers come with them....why doesnt mine??? i have a 2010 and they have brembos which you guys know so why doesnt it have slotted rotors?....let me know if you guys have any answers for me. any help would be awesome.. thanks Dominic
Well... I don't know. Here's some history though. Brembo designed the brake system with/for SRT engineering for the SRT8's. 2005 and 2006 cars came with solid rotors. They experienced premature grooving on the rotors. Sometimes in just a few thousand miles. Most within 10,000. The problem, as explained by the SRT engineers was that brake dust was not evacuating properly from the leading edge of the pads. The solution, apparently from Brembo was to go to slotted rotors. There was a TSB. The TSB said to replace rotors exhibiting premature scoring in pairs. Most (all?) dealers replaced all four even if only 1 was showing the problem. The TSB also provided for replacing the pads if they showed excessive wear. A few of the last 2006 and all 2007 on came from the factory with the slotted rotors. Since 2006 there have apparently been 2 subsequent revs of the brake pads. Maybe they've solved the problem with the pads and went back to solid rotors? Compare build dates with other cars you're looking at.
Most only have issues with the rear rotors getting grooved and/or squealing. I never had the squealing part but one rotor got grooved and the local service dept and SRT engineers all say that it is normal on a Jeep. You have many options in the aftermarket but unless you like spending money on replacing things that are new I would wait till its time to actually change your rotors and pads.
^^^ good advice .. I'd wait till you roast these rotors then order a set from R1 Concepts, thats where I got mine from.
I think the TSB said if grooving of the rotors was seen in one rotor that all four were to be replaced...and this TSB was only for LX cars. The Jeeps never got that far. My 2006 Charger had severe grooving inside the driver's side front rotor after 3k miles...it was weird. My buddies 2007 SRT8 Jeep had lesser grooving alllll over all four rotors after 10k miles and there was nothing the dealership would do about it...and he had TONS of dust.
My 06 Magnum has standard rotors and they change all my Brake pads at about 7,100 miles but refused to change the rotors.... NOW my brakes squeal like crazy and never done that BEFORE they replaced the pads. I NOW wished they had just left it alone! I have taken it back and they just spray stuff on it and send me on my way! I went to another dealer and NO help there either!
ya thanks for the advice...ill just wait until their all done and then see what i can do about aftermarket
my 06 magnum had the standard rotors and they were pretty well grooved at 7K miles so the dealership replaced them. I also installed some new pads when they did. Took about 500 miles to break in but they work good now.
This is a Jeep thread and none of this matters as any noise and/or grooving is considered normal. The only fix from the SRT Engineers is to use the brakes aggressively, which I do/did and never had any noise from the stock pads. I did get the grooved rotor but was considered normal from both the engineers and local service dept.
