If one or more of the impellers broke off, there would most certainly be noise. IMO

Besides, if the WP was bad, the temps would sky rocket immediately, not 45 minutes of driving and coming to a stop. Also, there would be no pressure in the radiator hoses if the WP was not functioning. Just saying.

Okay, let's just say it is the water pump. Where do the broken pieces go?? When we did my fan and tstat install, we drained the radiator just to clear it out and be sure, and nothing came out?? Would the broken parts make it to the block??? Now ya got me scared as shit again......

They would go .... somewhere? Let's not worry about it unless it looks like you need to find them. Pretty slim possibility of that. Like Ron's bag getting hit by a meteor.

But, since you brought it up that would make a great academic discussion . Don't believe there are any screens or anything in a coolant system. So let's say something (like a piece of impellor for example) about the size of your finger nail went downstream from the water pump. Next thing in line is those little tubes in the radiator? (I've forgotten which way it goes). Probably lodge right there? Let's say it was just small enough to work its way clean through the radiator. Where is the next smaller restriction? If it's large enough to lodge then it's probably going to be large enough to significantly restrict flow (at least through that part or branch of the system).

Even if it was in the block Chase, back flushing would almost surely get it out. Worst case you disconnect/re-connect hoses and back flush a section at a time.

Partial failure. Imagine the symptoms if you filed off 1/4 of each impellor blade? How about if just one or 2 impellor blades mostly broke off?
Lets say the whole cooling system was running at a constant 2/3's (or something) capacity? You could take off and drive all day. City driving might bump the high speed fan instead of just the low speed and parked and idling after warming the engine all the way up might just be too much for it. I think there's a possibility. Maybe not a large one but...?

lol We can chase this tail all night long, Dave. You make a point, I counter, and so on... Not very productive for Chase, but would certainly make for a great discussion. :)

Just answer your point above, if that small of pieces broke off (unlikely they will be that small), then I would think that there would not be much, if at all, of a change in cooling? Like I said before, if pieces of the impeller broke, the high temps would come immediately, not 45 minutes into a drive and at a stop.

Bottom line is that Chase has seen a huge gain in what he has done thus far. Do I think Chase has replaced more than needed? Yes.

You haven't explained that one either Mr. Smartie Pants. I was thinking like Cam on that one too but you didn't find any fragments. That leaves Light Saber. Pretty unlikely but there you have it.

Haha, most likely you're right. Just thinking ahead.

x2...thinking something didn't match exactly and was skewing the signal of what time ON is.

If that's perfect, things sure do point to a pump impeller failure of some type. But should exhibit some type of symptom other than overheating. Noises in that area, depending on failure. The impeller is double walled and encapsulates the fins within it, although plastic, it is strong. But if we go back and remember this came on out of nowhere, so it's plausible.

    Hope it's a air pocket!!!
After cool down, your overflow should be about half full.

Well, it sure as hell feels like it!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOWWWWWWWW BABY!!!!!! Thanks again for the help Kyle!!!!!

After much frustration, I think the demon is toast. Got the car up to operating temp, about 183*. And for about 10 mins, nothing happened. I was getting pissed, because I knew if she didn't burp, it was gonna be a water pump. But a few minutes later, the temps rose to 195*-ish, and I got a nice volcanic size bubble and burp!!!! And then the temp fell back to 185* for another 15-20 mins. After a couple of runs with the AC on and off, then on again. The HS fans kicked on and everything. Put the rad cap back on and let her idle for about another 10 mins. with the AC both on and off, and fans working. Temps remained at 185* the rest of the way!!!!! And this whole time she was parked in the garage with NO AIR coming in. So I feel pretty damn good about it. I didn't go for a drive, because we have a little rain coming in, and dinner was ready, lol. So tomorrow, if it's clear, I'll drive ol' girl all over the damn place!!! I have no plans for my off day, so time will be plentiful. But in theory, with all the info above considered, and with the big ass burp I got out of it tonight, I feel like the demon has been exercised!!!!!

Thanks again Kyle, for the time tonight. :beerchug:

Well, this looks promising. Congrats Chase!

(heh, maybe it just needed the big burp all along?) haha, just kidding.

Yeaaaaa Boyyyyy, now go enjoy that car. One of the best parts of taking care of problems yourself, is the satisfaction of the job complete and your running good.

That'd be cool, we usually take a few trips to Gulf Shores, just a long weekend type thing, maybe we could hook up and kill a few. Would love to check out your car, one of my favorite on the forums.

BTW, what radiator cap did you go with?

    Dude. That would be badass......
I went with a Stant #10234. The one without the pressure lever. Wanted to keep my BT cover. :)
