so since I dismounted my wheels to have them powdercoated and taken off the tire pressure sensors does the ECU know which sensor goes to which wheel or are they marked somewhere on the sensor? Help please
No worries. PCM will sort it out for you. Just make sure you have 1 sensor in each wheel. Doesn't matter which sensor goes in which wheel or where the wheel goes on the car. Way it works is that you have a location sender in 3 of your 4 wheel wells. Each TPS sensor has a unique ID. Each TPS sensor transmits the pressure and its ID. Each Location sensor sends its location and the sensor ID it can hear (strongest one). So the PCM is hearing 4 sensors. When it hears from the 3 location sensors it knows where each of the 4 sensors is located.
so... (waiting... waiting...) "heh, these things are battery operated. Maybe I should replace the batteries while they're out?" Probably not. First of all they're not serviceable. You replace the whole sensor. They figure the batteries should last roughly 10 years from when they're put together. You probably got a few tire changes left before doing that. I'm sure you were careful with the gaskets.
Haha, now I'm sure you're interested in the details...:grin: OPERATION The wheel sensors transmit to the Wireless Control Module (WCM), (commonly referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM)) approximately once every minute at speeds over 15 mph. Once the wheels stop rotating for approximately 20 minutes, the sensors go into "park" mode and transmit approximately once every 13 hours. The sensors will also transmit in park mode when a pressure change of one psi or more is detected. Transponders located in the LF, RF, and RR wheel wells provide the WCM with the location of the tire sensors. Each sensor transmits it's unique ID with the pressure. The location transponder gives it's location and the ID of the near sensor. If the WCM knows the location of three of the sensors the fourth is assumed to be the LR. Our placard pressure is 32 lbs. Our sensor thresholds are: Low Pressure ON Threshold 25 psi. Low Pressure OFF Threshold 29 psi. So if you get down to or below 25 psi you will get a low pressure warning. The low pressure warning won't be cleared until you get up to or above 29 psi. The sensor battery is not replaceable and is expected to last about 10 years.
hmm really?? just right now mine is saying "low tire presssure right rear" and the pressure locations come up, and the front lefts blinking
That's the theory of operation. Sometimes it doesn't do so good when it generates a warning message... It will probably alternate between the correct location and the wrong one. Seems when it gets it wrong it's always cross-corner. It's pretty much always right on the pressure numbers though. Which one is actually low? or is it just really cold out and they're all on the edge 'cause you haven't warmed them up yet driving?
Give it time you will be alright! It takes a min or two lol. Just drive around for 15 mins gve or take and all will work out.
My drivers side rear wheel always shows a low pressure and it is and I keep blowing it back up... Had it checked at the dealer; they say they patched the tire, still showing up... took it off, found a screw in it, plugged it, still showing low pressure.... still have to keep blowing it up... OH well, guess when money allows, I hafta just get a new tire... shame; still near new 8200 miles on it! However thanks....'cuz that was great information to know!
