recently have experieced issues with my HID kit. at low rpm, or coming to a stop, they will flicker and then completely shut off. not always both, not all the time. seems worse when it is colder. very random. a quick "on / off" of the headlight switch and they usually come back on. while driving down the road, no issues, only slowing down, or lower rpm range. i have bosch kit (no chinese knock off) with 55w ballasts. i originally had the 35w ballast with inline relay, but switched to the 55w ballasts and have had zero issues for well over 2 years........ i think the ballast may be going bad, but i cant seem to find a 55w bosch ballast. any ideas folks??
Have your battery tested I bet thats it. If I run my efan to long with the jeep off at the track it will cut the HID fogs/low lights off in order to keep the essentials running happened to me twice even on that nice Sears battery.
really....... even considering once the car is started, and the alt. keeping the system at 13.7 volts???? i would not have thought of this..... i know the battery i have is over three years old...... looks like i need to quit forgetting to turn off the dashdaq...lol
Check all conections sometimes shit gets loose it happened to me already or it's the ballast going out
Oh and if you need new ballast or parts get with Steve at XenonDepot he's always taken care of me when I needed stuff.
could be the ballast.... if you can get an anti-flicker kit for your car (if you dont have one yet) it would be a good move.... not sure what it is...seems like it would be a small capacitor or something that keeps/builds a charge so that if the voltage drops you don't get the flicker/turning off have you had the issue with you turn them on..and only one comes on...but if you turn them on and off...they both will eventually come on?
I don't think I need one cause I had a harness that is connected to the battery itself and use the MFS as the signal for the relay so my ballast will always see 12-13 volts cause here's a example when I did my fogs they wouldn't turn on when the car was off due to not enough voltage there was only like 9 volts when off so I took care of that with another harness I made
I have that one ^^^ I was told its because the ballast didn't see enough power. Can be remedied with a dedicated power harness to the HIDs instead of running them off the foglight wiring.
Well I had that probelm replaced both ballast ended up being the relay, chasing down HID problems can be a PITA if its just one side doing it rob parts from the good working side and see what it does.
if i had $1 for every time i was told that lol... i'd have like $10.... I love having HID's but they are just such a pain in the backside if anything happens.... I strongly believe i have had every issue you can have...from corroded connections, to bad ballasts, to a bulb shattering....but its just so much better than normal lights lol.... If you can do a dedicated power source...that seems to be the best way to solve the lack o power situation if an anti-flicker kit isnt your thing (if that even does the trick)....
I can honestly say the latest kits out from XD are awesome they are what I am running now, everything has been built better, waterproofed better and higher end components after swapping out old parts with the new stuff not one issue in over a year.
yeah i have changed all my HID's from the ones i got from the "old place" to a much better vendor and have been a hell of a lot better off lol.... I think most of my issues come from the conditions I drive in.... especially the fogs on my truck...they are open (even though i have them tucked away as well as I can)....so they get water/salt/sand/dirt on them...as well as being exposed to high 80's and 90* temps down to sub 0* temps upstate...
dont feel bad LEGMAKER. i had my HID lights in before, they were working fine till i took the magnum to the bodyshop.got the magnum back, put the HID lights back in,they dont work no more.
thanks for the heads up on XD..... did not think of them!!! duh!!! lol yes..... sometimes turning on, but mostly while driving and slowing down is when they flicker and randomly shut off...... both sides. the anti-flicker thing deals with cars that run 35w ballasts..... to my understanding, it more deals with making the pcm think the lights are working off of 55w like the stock halogens do. i thought about doing a dedicated power sorce, but i don't understand why they worked flawlessly for over two years and now these issues???? mine are from the "other guy" as well. might call XD to see if they have something that could be a "quick fix".... thanks for all the help guys!!!
