InferAl has 1.5 60's and dropping a shitload of TQ to the rears with drags and no breaks, Getrag all the way.
Hahahaha! I think thats what they did on the first set of shafts I bought -swapped them with stock ones. Once (oops, I mean if, I better be nice) these go again I will be done with the XXX shafts and will try a set of Builder Bill shafts.
why WOULDNT I want an LSD lol Nothin...just like getting the info on everything before i make a choice What does "overhauling a LSD" even mean? lol....noob here...needs to know these things.... and yeah would the Q need overhauling....i would assume clutches wear out? you find someone to buy my DSS axles at cost...ill get the getrag lol
Because you don't NEED it, or better rephrase that..I don't need it in my STREET car. If I planned on going to the track alot, and it would have to be ALOT to justify the expense, then yea, it's worth it, maybe...in the end, all you have to justify it to is yourself, and your bank account. I totally understand that. With some styles (like clutch and spring type) LSD's, it is necessary to rebuild the LSD unit with new clutch's. Just like you would with any other clutching type drive train part. Clutch's imply slipping. Slipping implies friction, heat and wear...so yea, over time you would need to rebuild that type set up. Helical gear design requires no maintenance.
All i have to say is... Mod List: BES/HHP Forged 9 to 1 Compression 6.1 HEMI w/ Stage 1 Cam, Vortech V3 T Trim S/C, Fuel System, Meth System, Autometer NV Gauges (Air/Fuel, Boost, Fuel Pressure, Trans Temp), BT 85mm TB, Kooks LT's, Kooks HF mids, 180* T Stat, Flowmaster Super 44's, ATI 17% Overdrive Dampener, ProTorque Converter, DSS 1000hp Halfshafts, NOS Spray Bar Radiator Cooler Corbeau Harnesses, CMR Tune...and more On the way: SHR Transmission LOL....if i somehow found a way to justify all that crap....i could probably work in a LSD to wrap things up hahahahahha
Show off ... It's your money, burn it, spend it, wipe your ass with it...i don't care...I guess my question was more aimed at if your were having problems with the stock unit.
Have you driven and LX with a LSD Kyle? I think once you do, you might change your mind on this mod. Powering through a corner with that sure-footed feeling and being able to give more throttle on exit is awesome. I waited a long time to get an LSD and I REALLY wish I would have done it sooner.
I think I'll just go with the Quaife and call it a day...when I do my SHR Trans...ill do that too...basically just wanted to see if there was a reason NOT to get it...I am not one to go off and be a "pioneer" or try new stuff...ill leave that to you guys who can fix shit LOL...ill just stick with what works....
No, I haven't...and i could see the benefits, especially on the track, but could never justify it for a pure daily driven street car. When i do have the opportunity to stretch the legs a bit, it's typically from a roll and going straight for a gear or two. I haven't been to the track in a long time, and don't do any auto x's...I don't think i'll every have one, or ever NEED one...especially one that cost $1500.00. That unit should be around $600ish IMO, and even then, i wouldn't buy it. My driving habits don't require it, ESP does just fine. Good call...
BINGO!!! i would also add that driving a car with an LSD is a much more predictable launching car imo. with my stock open diff, when i am on it from a slow roll, i really never know where the rear end will want to track. a tranny and lsd are coming soon for me!!!
I know EXACTLY what you mean. Street traction is a crap shoot and as the car's power is channeled from the left to right wheel the car get's squirrely. Actually squirrely is an understatement. I'm looking to get an LSD in the spring.
1fastsedan and Legmaker got it just right, first thing on my shoppinglist is an LSD, before blower, before better breakpads and so on. We dont use our Maggie during winter, but we still get rain during the summer months, and I cant even go around a corner from a standstill without the ESP working, and it starts of by using the rear breaks witch makes fore a jerky start. With a LSD, problem solved until I put the hammer down, with an LSD that makes for good predictiable powerslides... 1.500 USD is a lot of money in my world, dont get me wrong, but its well spent! Even spirited driving on twisty roads with standard power, an LSD is a great investment! Fredrik:thanks:
I heard of that for the first time tonight. Seemed like a dream for under $400. Not really sure how to take this guy's review though: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=180026
Something new for us...and more affordable, still expensive though. http://www.wavetrac.net/technical.htm
Hemi-C has the quickest time on LXForums and IMO, he really knows his stuff and tells it like it is. He is dialed in at the track with his daily driven 9 second Magnum.
I really think im going with this one....but we will see....got some more months to think about it Chris did the majority of the work on my car....so I am going to talk to him about this more...but the thing that concerns me the most is their lack of communication. If something happens with chris's car...he just rips it apart and fix's it...i gotta go through a whole ordeal lol...so we shall see.... heres the direct quote from the man himself....
That's a sweet piece. I wonder why they don't post power handling capability though, or maybe I missed it. That's incredible. I'm kinda interested now to start looking up some of this stuff. Particularly interested in quickest time on stock heads, non-stroker. They've said for years this engine has potential... so what has that turned into? It doesn't bother you that Wavetrac doesn't post power numbers? RE Phantom, yeah lack of comm usually doesn't bode well. I think someone over there posted concern about the design itself, and how this thing introduces new friction areas to the original diff. It's only $400, but if it wears -n- tears the original diff to the point of needing replacement soon, you're better off going with one of the other options from the gitgo. I really have no idea about a lot of this. My concern is that I STILL see posts of guys easily breaking their half-shafts. I'm under the impression that an LSD protects the axles by dividing power between the two... is this wrong thinking?
Dont know...thats why its good im not buying it yet hahahaha Let some other peeps get them in their cars...see how it works out for them... I dont care what MFG's claim...I like to see what people can actually do with them haha... So what i'll end up doing is just waiting to see if anyones running one...then how they feel about it...usually when something comes out...a few of the big boys get their hands on it...see how it works...and posts a real "this is what i think" thread...like chris did with the Phantom Grip one.... if when the time comes....and i dont see enough data...ill get the Q lol
