They are not worth the money and can actually cause harm to your motor UNLESS its one with the damper incorporated to it. There is only one of its kind for the SRT-4 and can be found/seen here: http://www.atiracing.com/products/dampers/charts/damchrysler.htm That is the only one I would run on my SRT-4. The other ones out on the market do not incorporate a damper system. I haven't had any personal experience with them but have heard/read plenty of horror stories.
I had an MPx underdrive pulley on mine for 5+ years. Absolutely NO issues. Funny thing is, all the horror stories are from a friend of a friend that heard about it from his sisters boyfriends dad. I have been around the SRT line up since june of 03, and have never heard of an UDP failure from anyone that actually had it happen to them. It's always, "I heard about it". That being said....There is zero gain with a UDP. It is not worth the money, in my opinion. And, a quick FYI....The motor in the SRT-4 has an internal crankshaft balancing/damper system and there is no need for a harmonic damper on the pulley.
wrong. the balance shaft system only cancels out precivable vibrations...the oscillation of the crankshaft still remains. the harmonic damper is there to protect from the other side of the pulley too. when accesories engage (i.e. the A/C) a new set of oscillations are transferred to the crankshaft. without a damper those oscillations will cause undo wear on the crank bearings. the dsm guys actually break cranks because of this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/1513989-post386.html
That is correct. The history on UDP's is nothing new. I come from an extensive DSM background and have a great knowledge base on these cars. My friend ran a UDP on his 1st gen Neon back in 2000. Just like in the SRT-4 world, DSM owners remove their balance shaft system as well. A balance shaft system is in place to minimize engine vibrations within the interior compartment. Its not intended as a internal damper for say a aftermarket UDP.
meh...learn something new everyday. Regardless.....I never had an issue with my UDP. I still don't recommend one though. Waste of money.
That is what i thought. i would rather not make a mess off my motor. i have seen the Ati damper ($485(?) on Summit). not worth my money. ill do solid motor mount instead.
