Think of it this way -

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas
    a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a
    year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline
consumption by 320 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about
    $350 million dollars

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

We spent $8.57 for every dollar saved.

I'm pretty sure they will do a great job with health care though...

There is no room for that type of realistic thinking in America mister. You now have to move to Canada.

I'm past anger and frustration with the idiotic policy ideas lately. Now I just giggle hysterically. Oh and find ways to make up for all that gas they saved me.

And to think...people think that the govt is going to fix things and save them money....

The less govt is involved in our daily lives the better...ask anyone who works for/with the govt and they will assure you of that....

problem is...the people who rely on the govt for things....are COMPLETELY dependent on it..and never seem to make a realistic attempt to get away from it...

thats why democrats (IMO) have, lets call it an idealistic view of what the country should be, without taking things into consideration like, i dunno...reality.

Now granted, I think many people drive more than 12k a year, but from what I understand, the national average is 12k.

What I think the OP was missing, is that the $350 million saved, would be for one year. Im pretty sure the average person keeps his/her car for 3-4 years. So lets just call it 4 years to be nice. So thats 4x350 = 1.4 billion

So even if we are lucky, the government spent 3 billion, to save 1.4, so a total loss of 1.6

So anyway you look at it, the govtards are ....well tards :dumb:
