front end alignment? Car is smooth until 78mph then the steering wheel shakes quite a bit....first time taking the car out on a long highway drive. The wheel is fine until that speed is reached. Car feels like it pulls a bit to right at high speeds. No pull to either side in city driving.

join the club. Have the tires road force balanced. Should resolve most of the shake.

ALso, the shake should dissipate after 82mph?

Shaking at speed is balance (pretty much). Any pulling is alignment. These are not easy to align and your run of the mill shop or dealer ain't going to get it right. You want to find some place that has hunter equipment and can road force balance the tires. They should ask you how much you weigh, if you regularly haul a passenger(s), what you carry in the trunk and if you'd prefer to have it tweaked for highway or twisties. Expect to spend around $300. It's worth it.

400 to balance your wheels??? I've gone through 4 sets of tires...never been road force balanced, just normal balanced and never a problem. I push 100+ regulary...no shimmy, no pull.

You need to try going around a corner sometime :D
I was talking about the alignment too. Tweaked for my fat azz in the driver's seat and my tool chest in the spare tire well.

Heh, wait! Went back and looked at my invoice... I had some other work done and then there was the cost of dismounting and mounting my new tires...

So the road force balance (including weights -- those flat ones that go in the barrel behind the spokes) was about $70 and the alignment was about $250. So only about $320 altogether.

seems like the shakes are from 78mph to about 83 or 84 mph then it settles down again...our warranty just expired (11/21) but I'm assuming this would not be covered anyway by the 3/36 warranty....taking to Dodge on Friday

How common is this problem with SRT8's?

It doesn't have anything to do with it being an SRT8. You're running 20" wheels with big tires. Assuming it is a balance problem (most likely the case) it has nothing to do with the particular car (or particular wheels or particular tires for that matter)

no i think he intentionally ignored it lol

its very common my friend. out of curiosity, which tires do you have on it? i've had 4 sets of tires. 2 of which were f1's, both of which were the only ones to have the shake.

Here's what I did to correct this issue and every task helped a little:

    1) Re-torque the wheels ensuring that you're at 100 ft./lbs. - in the proper sequence.
    2) Road Forced Balanced
    3) Replaced pads and rotors (they needed it, but it did help)
    4) Replaced tires (they needed it, but it did help)
    5) Removed the metal valve stem covers

Altogether this fixed it entirely. What I also find is that these wheels have a tendency to throw weights. Not sure why, but after a few thousands miles you can see where the wheel weights use to be.

vegas....... if you still are running the stock wheels with goodyear F1's, that is your issue. i road force balanced my F1's dozens of times, but until i shit canned them for a different tire, i always had that same shake issue. get new/different tires and a good road force balance and you should be good to go!!

    thanks for info

I have the original Eagle F1 Supercar tires with 13K miles ...tread wear looks even and still decent tread left.

I'll try the balancing once and then just wait till I need new tires. I rarely drive over 77MPH.

It's too bad these cars have the issue...otherwise the car is really a good cruiser but when the wheel shakes more than my 93 Mustang GT at speed...that is lame!

    Seems like you're trolling...

Why do you keep saying it's the car? It has nothing to do with the car or even the wheels. It's the TIRES.

By the way, we got lots of guys here with Mustangs. Try a different one maybe. Honda might work.

13,000 miles on F1's?! Holy crap! That has to be a record. I got 8,000 out of mine and never looked back.
