Since I rebuilt and installed, my PS pump has been whinning...I did a purge procedure, and it did quiet down some, but it is still whinning, and is annoying the shit outta me. I know a few here (won't mention names) have gone through their share of pumps, and it seems to be a weak link for us. I only have 36k miles on mine, and have never performed any figure eights or drifting type maneuvers... I have a few questions that may come in handy for others in the future...My dealer wants $200.00 Best deal? Upgrade? Advice? Fire away.
Didnt Ron mention in another thread that he had stolen your PSP?...or was that Hal he stole it from..LOL...
No, I burnt my PS at the USW photo/video shoot and had to steal Hal's. haha And I will have you know, Cam has the NEW pump in hand for Hal's car. Kyle, My question is this, "How is the steering?" If your steering is still fine, then try burping the lines. If this does not fix the issue, then I would recommend replacement. $200 is full retail at the dealer. Cost is 159. Try and haggle them down some.
Steering was a little tight at first, so I lifted car, removed PS reservoir cap, turned key to on, turned steering wheel to to lock back an forth about 20 times in each direction. Then started it, and turn back and forth 20 more times...It helped with the steering feel, but is still whining like pissed off badger. I had someone ask me if i added a S/C...it's that loud. Dealer told me 260ish was retail, and my price was $200.00...i guess i'll go that route. Should I order a new pulley also? Is it hard to get off the original pump, or easy swap?
yea, you need a new pump. The swap is fricken EASY! Not sure about the pulley change though, but no you do not need to buy a new pulley. Ask Cam how the pulley comes off.. Oh, I know that 159 is cost because that is what I paid at my dealer two weeks ago. haha
Yea, i'm not worried about the actual pump swap, that's a piece of cake. I've replace others in the past, and the pulley removal itself has been from easy, to no fucking way...just easier to buy a new pulley on certain applications. Maybe Cam will chime in.
Kyle, unless you have some need for the pulley puller, ya might as well buy a new one. Installation can be done a couple ways. The proper tool or a grade 8 - 3/8" X 16 bolt with at least 3"'s of thread. A nut and a couple extra thick fender washers. I have also used 3/8" anchor bolts before too.
Ralph and I are still working on a solution. We have a good idea, but need to source some parts... If all goes according to plan, it will free up 8-10 HP and prevent all power steering pump blow outs.
We just discussed it in more detail on Friday. Now we're looking to see if anyone makes what we need.
Last I saw of Hal he was taking a cab to the hospital. Said he was having a hard time turning the wheel and thought it might be weakness from a heart attack.
Thanks Cam, i'll have to have it in my hand for this to make complete sense, but i think i understand what your getting at. I'm assuming the stock pump will be used to go along with your solution??? If not, I'll wait on your part(s). What is it, maybe we can help.
