Despite cold temps (under 60*) and 5 passes, I couldn't get a time less than 12.8, nor a 60ft less that 2.1, nor a R/T less than .4. I knew I wasn't gonna set any records, but I wanted a 12.5 or less. My problem (which was EXACTLY what you guys said it would be) was traction. First time out, I instinctively stomped the throttle, and we all know what happened there, lol. Second time I thought I rolled into it better, but I guess not, still spun hard, lol. Third time a little better, but within 100ft when I pegged it, I still spun the tires pretty good. Same goes for the 4th and 5th passes. I JUST COULDN'T GET THE SLED TO HOOK!!!! My first 100ft (again, like you guys said) was the issue. But holy shit, I gotta give props to SHR's tranny. For the first time on a wide open track, going balls to the wall, it felt soooooo good feeling that thing shift quick and hard. (that is, once I finally got going) ANYWAY!!! Does anyone have any links on any wheel/slicks combos?? And what should I look for?? How are these things rated?? What sizes do need to consider?? How much money should I expect to spend?? Today DEFINITELY took my understanding to a whole new level. I appreciate any help on this you guys can give. lease:
If you can hold out for the winter, one of our wheel manufacturers should be introducing their drag pak sets. Otherwise HHP, SHR, BMC, should have DR's with rims. Probably around $700 for DR's and rims?
Sound like things went well? What about all the first time procedures and everything? I assume you just wanted us to know you're ok and that you're working on your trip report? "I'm back, need slicks". One thing. Unfortunately as the temps go down the cars run better and the track gets slicker. Right about 65 or 70 there seems to be a very significant difference.
Chase if you get that 60' down to 1.9 you will see low 12s.....some slicks or DRs should help you get there............the cold weather makes the car run better but hurts traction...what was your MPH?
Keep in mind that the slicks won't make you spin proof. More track days will help so when you get your slicks you can make the most of them. Erik set the benchmark with consistent 1.8 60's on RSA's! (Of course that was with a Magnum, Chargers might not be capable of that).
Thanks for the report. I'm not sure what size tires/etc for your torque. I'd scope out the lxforums track database and find folks with similar power/torque and track down what they run to get the times they have.
I HAD A BLAST FELLAS!!!! Thanks for all the help!!!! My only other concern is my super-low stance......I don't want the slicks to rub my fenders and jack shit up..... And Larry, my traps were 115mph EVERY TIME except the first time out.
Just to give you an idea of what you might do....local guy (and a member here.. rsgt ) with a 426 Charger ran a 12.004 @ 114mph a few weeks ago at Bristol...he had slicks and turned a 1.7 60'.....elevation here is 1500' so you might just see high 11s with a good launch..
Chase for the first time thats not to shabby buddy, told you with our size rims and tires our result would be very similar. My best was 12.6 we both need drags and I need a damn converter! Congrats buddy you popped your cherry, welcome to the addiction.
Thank you sir!!!! Gotcha. I hope you're right sir. I REALLY hope you're right!! Thanks holmes. 1FST4DR (Scott) has a killer deal on a NIB ProTorque 3200 stall. You should PM him!!!!
Not to shabby for your first time! BTW Hit up Moes performance.A 275/40/17 Hoosier will be perfect for you.And he a a nice package deal too..
Looking into Paramounts 3000 Stall and trust me buddy your in 11's with drags, my sled is dieing for a converter and drags, damn rims got the bling but not the ZING!!!! Thats what setup im getting from Moe's, along with a converter hopefully soon.
You wont regret that set up.Lots of 1.5X with those Hoosiers..Let me know if you change your mind and want the TC Ill make you a killer deal and you'll save $300.00 at least. Sorry for the high jack Chase..
I'm lazy, gotta be up at 4:30 am to catch a 6:30 flight. Got a link? (like you don't do enough for me :sly No apology necessary. He should be buying it from you.......:future:
Best to compare MPH when your are traction challenged. 115 is good for mid 11's with good traction. Glad you enjoyed yourself...good luck next outing. Be careful not to get to addicted, it can be a very expensive sport/hobby...I'm content with a high powered street car.
Your low stance is partly to blame about your crappy launches.... now im sure dave will come in here and correct everything im saying but.... you dont have the ability to do a proper weight transfer with your car slammed.... also, make sure you have a jack thats capable of getting under your car when you do get slicks so you can do the transfer at the track...and keep in mind...drag radials and a big jack and stuff will have to fit in your car
