Am I doing something wrong, or is this typical for cat back systems?

After about 5000 miles, and a third time having parts of my MOPAR/Corsa system loosen and start hitting the body, the exhaust shop realigned it again and added tac welds to the joints in the system. This shop does a lot of custom exhaust work and told me this was a problem due to the style of clamp used.

I am confident that it won't loosen up now but was wondering if any other members have had problems like this.

Some have and some haven't. I have the same cat back, installed at the (now defunct) dealer. Probably 15K miles on it and it hasn't moved. Well... ok, somewhere along the line it did start making a rattle for about 1/2 second during warm-up. Start the car cold and as it steps the idle down there is an extremely short rattle. Doesn't do it after that. I suspect it's fine once it gets a tiny bit of heat in it since you can go through that rpm after the first time and it doesn't rattle. Have to say they did a perfect install the first time, tips perfectly straight, centered and aligned. They used whatever clamps came with the cat back from Mopar.

Something might have changed a miniscule amount when I had my A/F gauge installed. Rather than drop the entire exhaust to get it off the header studs we simply cut the cat in two and welded it back together after installing the bung.

Hanging an exhaust perfectly and having it stay that way is extremely tricky and also involves some luck I think. I'm figuring I had a perfect outcome and it stayed that way because I'm living a lot cleaner life than they rest of you guys :woot:. ...you know, karma and all that.

Had an issue with my Zoomers and the U-clamps (?) and ended up going to the exhaust shop in SoCal and got them tach-welded on. No issues since. Just everything else in my car is slowly rattling loose. :)

You can throw a couple of washers in the bolts and drop the brace down a little bit....

or you can get shortened hangers to raise it up a bit

that happened to me when i got my Kooks on

I was going to fully weld my system together, but recently the chambers in my muffler collapsed and clogged the drivers side pipe .. it woulda been a bitch to replace if I had to cut it apart ..

I adjust/tighten my system every oil change or two ..

I was thinking of getting hangers put in to raise them up ! And just to let everyone know i hated my Borla Cat back system for the lack of sound! I just did new cats and o2's and it sounds great i love them very nice!

I just installed my corsa a few weeks ago. Mine rubs against the the spare tire well under the car. It's a tight fit there...maybe a 1/2" gap when I first aligned it. My exhaust has settled in now and now its intermittently hitting against the well. When it hit...you can feel and hear it inside of the car. I'm going to get it aligned somewhere and hopefully it stays. If not, I'm comtemplating just bending in this area a 1/2" or so where the exhaust hits or maybe I can find some sort of high-temp insulation I can put on the spare tire well that will stick. I've read other threads where corsa owners have had the same issue.
