I've been diabetic for over 27 years and on insulin pump therapy since 1995. If you think about it, wearing an insulin pump and adjusting my insulin rates based on my metabolism is sort of like tuning an engine. So right now, I'm using this thing:

The little seashell shaped thing checks my blood sugar 288 times a day for real time glucose monitoring using an attached probe that's just under the skin. I have to wear it for three days so it can check and record my blood sugar trends. On Friday I go back to the doctor to remove it and upload the numbers to her computer and based upon that, tweak my insulin pump settings so my blood sugars are easier to control.

My previous doctor knew that I was a car nut, so he put my condition in these terms. Because I'm in constant need of fine tuning, I'm more like a Ferrari, while all the normal folks who don't have diabetes are like Honda Civics or VW bugs.

They are making big strides with the diabetes...you are young enough that you will see a day when they will cure your diabetes thru genetics..

I've had diabetes long enough that I'm well, not really worried about a cure. The only thing I'd do different if I woke up tomorrow and wasn't diabetic would be to start seriously thinking about another baby and maybe a racing career. :magic:

But the days of wishing I could pig out on caramel sundaes and all that silliness are long past. I just try to stay ahead of the curve and do all I can to take care of myself and live as normal a life as possible.

The've got your probe sensors all in the wrong place... Lol!
You know... you could probably get Ralph to modify a meth/sugar kit for ya and install it at a good price! I bet that really sucks at times having to deal with all that. I know my uncle had had to deal with injections for over 55 years now....

So I had my quarterly appointment with the endocrinologist lady this morning. Cholesterol's back down to good levels so no stupid meds for that. My thyroid and kidney and all other tests came back good/normal, except for my A1C (blood sugar) which is high, but we're chalking that up to the retarded amount of stress I'm under and the holidays.

My weight strangely is down another 7 pounds, so 18 pounds less than before I got pregnant and thus 10% of my body weight (which I'd stayed at for like 20 years) is poof gone. I'm not working out, I eat non-healthy (usually red meat and butter are involved) but still, losing weight. I know I should be happy, but honestly it weirds me out, plus now I have to shop for clothes that are smaller yet still accomodate long legs/arms, ugh...

Oh and the thingamabob in my thyroid looks like its gotten bigger so in April I'll get be getting another ultrasound AND the doc wants to biopsy it. Right now we're just focusing on getting my blood sugars back in line. Fun fun.

I guess in car terms, I'm just running rich.. LOL

Best of luck with all of that, Tam. My daughter in law has a pump that automatically does something to adjust her sugar too. She's had that for a few years and so far she's had no problems with any of that.
