Well folks, after hearing over and over how crappy the GSM air/water aftercooler is, and then seeing 160+ intake temps, i have decided to make a change....

Looking to be the first, that I know of, person to adapt a ProCharger HO air/air FMIC to a paxton novi 1500!!! i am pretty confident it will be fairly straight forward. biggest thing i see right now is that i am going to have to cut the existing collar for the BOV off of the procharger plenum and weld on the one from the extra GSM after cooler i have. doesn't look to be that big of deal, as both BOV inlet stubs are the same diameter. anyway, the swap will take place over the next week or two and i will post up some pics of the install!!

huge thanks goes out to dave (fixer) for all his help in getting this going and hooking me up with the folks at procharger!!! talk about some great people to deal with!!! kudos to dave and the folks at procharger!!!

You should spend the extra coin and buy the BOV that will fit the PC fitting.

all to cool the intake temps better and more efficiently kyle. air to water intercooling is fine, but with my particular set up (gsm paxton) the air/water aftercooler is small and terribly inefficient. i routinely see intake temps over 160 and it just robs power. air/air is much more efficient, cools intake temps quickly to just over ambient in most cases. issues are when sitting in traffic, but once i get moving, the temps will cool much quicker.

man, you are just like scott......... have no problem spending my money!! dahahahaha

i thought of that ron, but the similarities of the two mounting points is so close that swaping the bov stubs should not be an issue at all.

    Exactly, Steve.

Chris, I highly suggest it because that BOV is "Barely" big enough for 8psi. Seriously, buy a new (Better) BOV now. Less head aches down the road.

please........ you are preaching to the choir on this one steve........ remember, i did my install before you! ;) the great price on my blower, ended up costing me a shit load more in "extras" in the name of "doing it right"..... lol

actually ron, the bov that i got from you is good for more than 8lbs. i know this because i just talked to vortech last week about this bov. i actually called them about getting a replacement gold filter thingy that i broke off of it!!! lol

sorry Chris, but that BOV is "Junk". It does not release the pressure as quick as it should. It is ok for small boost, but anything higher than 8psi will be "Chance".

I had to do some finessing to that BOV to get it to work...

Now you "Know" that I like the guys at Vortec, but do you really think they are going to tell you that one of their items is junk past a certain threshold? lol

they will when you preface your comments with "GSM".......... lol

considering the car in its current state will never see more than 8lbs, the return on investment at this point is low. down the line when the wick gets turned up, then yes the bov would be upgraded as well, but for now, i will save the 400 bucks........... i will put the money towards the "forged" funds!!! lol

everytime i have had to call them, when they here "GSM" paxton kit, you can hear an audible sigh...... when i talked to them last week, they point blank said the bov is not the best you can run, but for up to 10lbs, it is very functional.....not the best, but not shit. they freely admit what it is....a mid level piece good to a specific point. like they told me, turn up the wick and i would want to upgrade. but like i said, with the car in its current configuration, this will work fine for now.

    WOOOOHOOOO on the intercooler!!!

On the topic of the BOV, Chris in all due respect, that BOV is "so so". Now yeah you can fix it if it fails, however think about all the wasted effort in the long run.

Now if you are at a budget limit for the project yeah you can hop along with it, but do not plan to have it there forever.

i understand chris....... again, it is a mid level piece that will more than serve the function at the current demands. when the day comes and things get turned up a notch or two, that will be one of many things attended to. ;)

    okay.

As long as you are comfortable with spending money now and later on something that could have been replaced in the first place, then that is all that matters.

I just can't see chopping up such a beautiful kit to make something less worthy fit. ;)

and I promise you that BOV will not hold 10 psi. Remember, in ABQ I was running 10psi. At Sea Level it was 12psi. Just saying.
