Welp here goes my build thread.

So last Saturday I purchased a 1996 4.6 NPI mustang, needless to say it is slower than I remember my previous mustangs being. As I am a pack rat, I still had alot of my parts left from previous builds (IE H-beam rods, Pistons CP with a 9cc dish (stock diameter), and an old crank from my first attempt at ModMax)

With much gratitude going to Mikey (66DvlBrd68) I had a donor block and a set of PI heads from a motor he bought from a member on RSW. We knew there was something wrong with the motor when it was pulled but never lifted the heads to see what was wrong.

So today it began, the tear down!

Pulled the Cams and Heads. Stripped and ready to inspect the block.

All and all not too bad. until I pulled the Passanger side head. Low and behold!

LOOK SRT8 guys! FORDS CAN DO IT TOOO!
    bye bye ringland!

looks like the damage is isolated to the intake valve on the head, but to be safe, the block and heads are going in to be rubbed on a bit. With that said I may need a new set of pistons, but from looking at the cyl. the hone still looks very good so I am not too worried.

Crank is clean, normal wear on the barings so who knows I may end up using it.

I have an AODE coming my way nice and fresh from being built up, and have ordered a 3300 stall (i was torn between 3300 and 3500 since I am going with a "small turbo" 88mm) Lets see how that works out.

I posted this in pics and vids as this will be picture intensive thread and does not fit in the SRT8 line.

Nice. At least the damage is only there... with all the parts and accessories for those things, you can make a badarse Stang without having to sell your first born.

lol Spare parts is an understatement, Chris. haha

88mm eh? you looking for 9's in that thing? lol

Might as well get the cams while the motor is apart. Will save time and $ later on. What tranny, rear end, and gears you gonna go with?

Rear will be strange spool with 44 spline in the 8.8, tranny will be AODE with a trans brake. Gears will most likely be 3.73, but may have to drop to 3.53 depending on how the setup shakes out.

Goal is low 10s taping 9s in this thing...

Hey Chris, Adam at Spanking Time is a major league stang boy. He's got billions of parts laying around. Let me know what you might want and I'll talk to him about it.

His turbo fox vert is insane... runs like 10s and you would never think it looking at the rusted engine bay... Looks like he made the turbo piping out of old exhaust tubing...

    BUT IT RUNS!!!

Congrats on the stang pick up! The 94-98s look the best in drag race trim. I have a 96 as well thats a long term project. Check out yellowbullet.com , lots of big time turbo guys there, VERY knowledgeable...

Also, why 44 spline if you're just shooting for 9s. Overkill and a lot of unnecessary weight when 33 spline is plenty. Unless you already had them, then budget FTW!

Agreed about the 44 spline, however for the long term I don't know where I will end on this car and with the full spool those axles are going to be hit hard.

thanks for the link! I am one of the Admins on ModularFords.com. Been on there since 2003, drop by sometime :)

Here's my slut in all her FORMER glory:rip:

    .....And how she sits now:crying:

And the carb'd 5.5L that will eventually take her into the 9s....

MORAL of the STORY.....keep making progress and dont let her sit like I made the mistake of doing. It's hard to get motivated now:crying:

I've been registered on MF for years. Kinda went away when it became dominated by the 03/04 crowd. Not much 4V tech for the other guys at one point. Maybe it's different now, but that's why I left then...

The terminator's dominated the forum for a while, now its alot of 3v and 5.4l guys, but seems to have alot of good activity in the others. I don't even go on there much, but I really should, Eric and Elisa are very dear friends of mine :)

Man she was pretty! I am not much of a DOHC guy (I just simply have lived almost solely in 2v land)
