so i got a new '07 magnum srt8,that i have yet too pick up! hopefully tuesday or so i can go get it. question is,what kind of quirks or anything can i expect out of this thing? everything has it's problems,so what is theirs? also, has anyone done/have anything to up the fuel mileage a little? this car is going to be my daily, and i have a couple musclecars too raise hell in,so i would like too get a little more out of it.
i have not had any trouble with mine. i get 21 mpg on the highway with a vortech superchargers on my magnum srt and my 300srt with just bolt on mods get 24.5 mpg.
it's pretty much stock with a cai, as far a motor mods go. the best thing you can do is stay out of traffic.
The 300 is 200-300LBs lighter (depending on options) than the Magnum so that may effect milage differences. My former 06 SRT8 Charger got 22.9 mpg highway staying around 70-75 MPH. I had hiflow cats, Magnaflow catbacks, ported heads, B&G tune, AFE CAI and a comp cam.
People always look at like I'm lying when I tell them I get 23 mpg on the highway....in traffic is damn near half that at around 14....if you do alot of in town driving, forget about mileage, these cars are pig heavy.
well. i finally got it yeaterday! drove all the way back from ohio pissing with buttons it seemed! lol! according to the computer onboard,i was getting 20 mpg at 80 mph with the air on! i am pretty happy with that! i guess anything i do will up that and hp i hope. i am thinking cold air intake first. has anybody hollowed out the converters or just removed the mufflers and left the converters for sound? i love the car so far, just have to figure everything out!
that new car giddiness....Congrats dude, enjoy the ride! To answer your questions:Of course. Gutting converters is not an easy task. Doable, but not fun. You can opt for catless mids made by Kooks. If you keep the exhaust stock otherwise, you'll have quietness while cruising and growl out back when on it. CAI's are plentiful, best out for performance gains are Crank This Performance dual CAI, AE Carbon Stage II, and AFE Stage II....take your pick. To get the most out of it all, get a Diablo CMR tune. Vendors to deal with (in no particular order): Crank This Performance (Cam) BMC (Lisa) High Horse Performance (Rob) Modern Muscle (Justin) Southern Hot Rod (Eddie) If you stick to this list, you'll be taken care of and a happy customer. Again, congrats on the purchase, and best of luck.
thanks guys! and thanks for the heads up dookie! i have an AFE filter setup on my cummins and i like it,so i probably will go with that. i have not read the book on the car at all,but can anybody tell me why in park or neutral it hits the limiter at 4000? thought that was kind of wierd! can i have the thing dyno tuned and change some stuff? SO MANY QUESTIONS!! AHHHHH!
That's normal, and yes you can have it changed up to 5k with a CMR tune or a handheld Diablo Predator tuner. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, noobie ones or not...Always happy to help here on the C.
thanks! wtf is a cai? i was trying to figure out how all these guys were doing massive burnouts and the damn thing just hits 4 grand!
LOL...Abbreviation for Cold Air Intake...The Neutral or Park rev limiter is 4000, while driving, it's 6200 stock i think (been a long time since I was stock) but that's close.
cool! i should have known that since i have one on my diesel! lol! you are correct on the rev limiters. i can't stand the 4k limiter crap! oh well, car is still a blast! i want too get it on a road course one day i hope.
Ya, you'll notice better MPG with the windows up and the AC on than windows down. Our "heavy weights" don't like the extra drag that much...
well,i took my new girl to the dealer today to have them check some stuff out and i wanted to look at the underside on a rack. the piece on the side of the driver seat with the controls was broke,so they ordered me a new one. i have been feeling a thump in the rear on takeoff,or just pulling out,at random. has anyone else experienced this? is it normal or a problem? i read on here somewhere about the shock bushings or something going bad,but the car only has 30,000 mi. on it! anyone?
