First off, I want to thank Mol, Cam, sdcarguy, and Stu for their help through all of this.

So, my plan for the summer was that I was going to build my own forged short block. In late April, I bought a used 6.1 long block from Wbglider in Washington. I was going to save up money and buy parts as I could and then assemble everything in late August or early September. However, my car had some other ideas.

On May 11, I was cruising to work minding my own business when my AFR gauge started going crazy and I could hear/feel a cylinder missing. I moved over 4 lanes and made it down the off ramp before the car died on me. I had the car towed to Show and Performance where Ralph (Mol) was kind enough to drop everything and help me tear down the motor. The plugs were seized in #7, when we took off the valve cover this is what we found.

One of my Manley exhaust springs had broken and dropped the valve into the piston. It was NOT a blower related failure. All of the remaining pistons were in great shape. It was pure and simple mechanical failure. Hey, parts break that’s the way it goes.

When we took off the driver’s side head and found that the #7 piston was no more.

I got in touch with Stu and reached a deal on what to do next. He pretty much warrantied the head and then we agreed to a shared cost of the short block with me. What customer service!!!

Then July 31 this arrived at Cam’s shop. We dialed in the cam the next day with Cam’s help.

Then Mol, sdcarguy and I got to work putting the rest of the pieces back on the motor.

The three of us dropped the whole thing in on Friday and then yesterday we hung the exhaust and blower and everything is running well! Unfortunately, while the car was in storage some mice decided to dine on some of my wiring. So my fog lights, halos, and meth kit are out of commission right now. But everything should be back to 100% next weekend.

    So here are the upgrades:
Billet rocker arm collars and hold downs
    Hardened push rods
Crower adjustable timing set, advanced the cam 4 degrees
New water pump, oil pump, and rear seal
    ATI damper
    Custom CP pistons
    Carillo K1 rods
    Builder Bill SFI flex plate
    Edge 2800 torque converter

Adam, are those the same MSD coils you had or the newer ones? I'm sure with the colder plugs, they helped out a lot more?

Hey man excellent news I can tell Mol keeps the place neat and tidy but tell him to quit dropping BBQ sauce on the floor and inticing mice to come in-LOL. Congrats to all that played a roll in getting you back together.

Same cam that I had before. Its an Inertia SRT Max(HELL) on a 115 LSA. The specs are 218/222 and 566/578. Ralph took it down to Crower and they checked it out and put a polish on the cam for me. Stu stuck with the stock 6.1 springs on the intake side and we put PSIs on the exhaust side.

ps - Crower is interested in making some more late-model HEMI parts. Rods, springs, cranks...yummy.

I'd cut a finger off for a gear drive timing set.

I'm not sure what you mean by newer ones, but yes they're the same ones I've had for a year. Alex just painted them for me. Thanks Bi-gal 470!

I've had her up to 4k RPMS without boost and it feels AWESOME! The motor/cam/converter combo are seriously strong. I can't wait to let it into boost too up there. Another 200 miles or so of break-in, then its beating time. :)
