If anybody happens to take out their battery could you measure it? and measure the tray? and measure the height to the cargo floor for clearance if you happen to have a Magnum?

You might want to check this one out at Sears. Rumor is that Odyssey makes their platinum line. So its the same size and same power, but about $80 cheaper and a lot easier for you to procure. It even has the same handle on top as the Odyssey.

Thanks, that's a start. I suppose I'll have to get out there and get into it. I'm thinking of just blowing off the afternoon, driving down to Sears, taking the battery out in the parking lot and comparing with what they've got that I want. Seems that the Platinum is the only AGM type they have but not in a group 94R. He did say they have some deep cycles (Platinums?). yada, yada. It's getting to where the car won't even make it a whole 2 days sitting without running.

I went and got one of these on Tuesday. I pretty much fits. I was going to go for the somewhat larger marine (deep cycle with like 1175 CCA) but it was too big. Too tall if standing up and if you layed it on it's side it would have been into the styrofoam storage thingie.

The group 65 is just a bit shorter so the clamp on the bottom of the tray isn't engaged. The strap seems to work fine. There is some give even if you cinch the strap really tight because it's really slick sitting on the bottom of the tray. I'm going to lay down a thin rubber layer underneath it this weekend. It does just barely fit under the cargo floor. The terminals are on the opposite side (opposite side, not opposite end) but that's not a problem. There is no vent on the battery like there is on the stock battery. I think maybe that's technically a problem at the track? I thought I read some spec somewhere where a battery somewhere other than the engine bay had to be vented to the outside?

Oddly enough the automotive one has a 4 yr. full replacement warranty and prorated after that where the deep cycle marine one only has a full 3yr warranty with no prorate after. go figure.

    Stock: CCA - 730?, RC - 140
    Platinum P-2: CCA 930, RC - 135

The monster marine ones are on sale right now so they cost about the same as the automotive versions (instead of $30 more).

I think it is the battery BOX that has to be vented according to the rules.

Most of us will use a battery that is close enough to stock that it willl easily replace the existing one.

    More venting bs...
The trunks of our cars are already vented in the bottom of the well, probably because it is a requirement. (Members should be aware that they should not use this existing hole for running their nitrous line.)
But if you decide to mount the battery in a custom enclosure you need to add a vent tube to the enclousre for outside air.

If anyone is interested here is a brief explanation...

Most "full racing" style cars are running their batteries RE-LOCATED to the trunk and it is usually mounted in a custom fit "battery box" made of stainless steel.
The battery relocation is mostly for more wieght distribution over the rear end, and probably to get it away from engine heat, plus fire safety reasons.

According to racing rules (and common sense) the box must be vented to outside the car.

    Why...
Even a sealed battery could rupture under some freak occurance and release toxic gas. Anyone running old style "open cell" refillable batteries are leaking sulfuric gas, especially under heavy loading.

If the batteries are the same as the LX (which logic would say they are) the Diehard P2 Platinum listed above should work fine. It is a little shorter than the stock battery, and the posts are opposite from stock. Meaning the positive is where the negative is and visa versa. It has like 930CCA, so that's not an issue.

Hate to say it, but unless you have some time to figure it out, or someone else already has and posts....you may have to go back with the OE battery from a Stealership.
