Tony, I had this issue with my Satisfieds earlier this month. It was caused by glazing the rotors, so I had to have the rotors returned. Squealing is gone.
Anthony when coming to a stop from 5 mph to 0 mph its embarassing how noisy the rear brakes are, im going to try this Permatex first and take it from there. They gave you new rotors? My rotors look fine no grooving nothing.
Tony, I assume you just put these pads on and haven't been running them for a while and they just started squealing? What Ron is referring to is brake pad material bonding to the rotor surface. It may not be real visible. Technically, you're supposed to always get your rotors resurfaced (turned -- they do it on a lathe) or replaced when you replace the pads. Most rotors can be resurfaced once, sometimes twice (they got tolerances they won'd turn them down under). Naturally when you turn them it removes anything on them and leaves you with a flat surface. Then you bed the pads to match the pad surface to the rotor surface (and transfer some pad material onto the rotor).
you are such a whiner........ remember, there is only 3 ft difference in stopping distance!!!! :ronlove: tony - if you have had the pads on for awhile, then you probably need to turn the rotors..... if they are new, do the bedding process again.... i have had mine for over two years and 30K miles with no issues! and they stop just fine......... regardless of what momo says!!! lol
It started doing it right after the dyno session which leads me to beleive the rotors have gotten a tad glazed which in that case I need them turned like you guys said. The fronts are quiet as can be. See pulling my rotors off now is not as easy as it used to be with the USW's on, I need to be careful taking the painted lugs off, be careful I dont scratch the rims etc its turned into a fuc*ing MISSION to turn 2 damn rotors. Ugh back to the stocker rears to turn the rotors, unreal. And pulling the lugs off usually means repainting 3 or 4 of them!!!!!!!
Hit the rotors with 80-grit in a X - pattern (cross). It will take any build up of brake compound of the surface of the rotor, cheaper than having them turned, with less down time.
I was looking at my rear rotors last nite and they appear scorched, no grooving but there finished, for the cost of turning them I can get 2 new rear rotors from my dealer, he charged me $65 a piece ill have those tommorow, found new rear posi quiet pads for $36 shipped so those are on order too. I got away with not turning the front rotors and changing pads but the rear were not having it at all, seems the heat generated from the fronts while bedding the new pads conformed to the rotors pretty good, just can generate enough heat to the rears while bedding to do the same, they have been bedded 3 times already and the squeal wont go away. Lesson learned the hard way, by taking cash out of my pocket.
It looks to be Dave, The front pads dont look the same at all like the rears, from bedding the crap out of the pads looks like the front pads bedded well to the rotor, much better then the rears, I just cant generate enough sustained hear to bed the rears, by the time I do the front pads will need changing!!!!! 4 times yesterday was enough and I went thru a tank of gas, now I really suck gas and haul ass! So new rotors and pads for the rear it is, everything is on order total for it all was $170 shipped, lesson learned. Whats funny is around here I cant find ANYONE that will turn slotted rotors and I mean NO ONE.
I don't think bedding would/will solve that problem. Haha, you've probably turned the rears cherry red right along with the fronts. When you bed the brakes and/or when you get them really hot you will transfer some of the brake pad material to the rotors. It bonds to the rotors. It's more or less permanent and the only way to remove it is to turn the rotors down past it. Maybe it was material from different compound pads that's doing it but more likely that layer of pad material isn't even/flat. That's another reason you don't put your foot on the brake when the wheels aren't turning and the rotors are red hot. Then you get a "clump" of pad material on there and it will "pulse" or maybe squeal. I think once you get in that situation the only way out is turning the rotors or replacing them. (I'm not so sure about hand sanding... I think it's pretty important to have the surfaces perfectly flat all the way around and across. Maybe it doesn't matter all that much for street use?)
Now were going to find out how good the Centri Posi Quiets really are, new rotors, new pads. The rotors ill have tommorow and the pads by thursday.
Be prepared. For the first couple of weeks, when you head out cold in the morning it will feel like you don't have hardly any brakes for the first couple of stop signs. After that it's fine but you need more pedal pressure. After a month or two it's as expected all the time. I don't particularly like that initial "grab" of our stockers and common to the brakes used on most European cars when you first apply pressure to the pedal. (oh wait! you've already bedded them about 5 times so you know all that :grin One mod I'm planning on sometime in the future is braided lines to get rid of the spongy pedal under heavy braking. (oh yea, the dust will drop by 80% when you first put them on. After a few weeks the drop in dust goes to about 95%)
The front rotors and pads are staying, they bedded quit nicely and im happy there is no squeal from the fronts, like I said the rears are OTW!!!
BIG TIME! Ok guys the rotors and pads have been changed, get this my dealer got me both rear rotors for $50 bucks a piece!!! Payed $30 for the Centri Posi Quiet rear pads shipped, the entire rear brake job cost me $130 buck, loving it!!!!! Took it for a test drive heated the rotors and pads up, let them cool off and no squealing!!!! Ofcourse ill be monitoring them closely this weekend when the beast comes back out to play. This is the LAST time I change pads and and not change the rotors if im changing to a different material brake pad, lesson learned but thank god it only cost $130 bucks to learn, hell I spend more on a friday nite drinking. All in all it took me 30 minutes to swap everything out using a lift at my buddy's auto shop.
