i am installing my stage one computer with a new stage 2 waste gate. i am putting the stg 2 waste gate on (car is in CA needs to pass smog so it looks stock and no Q's) not so much to increase boost but to get a more constant boost psi. from what i have read 13 to 15 psi is what i should expect to have it set at and have it work great. my car as it sits boosts to 14 and holds 11psi all the time. this should work great couppled with the bwoody check valve. any thing else i should know?
I THNK I answerd my own question but further input would be great. http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f221/stage-2-wga-stage-1-a-211631/
KingNate has alot of S1 with s2 wga, agp wga and fm wga. I believe figs also has the same experiences.
S1 with an S2 wga is a great combination if you choose to stay PCM controlled boost. I have gone that route in the past. The S2 wga has a stiffer spring, I believe its a 7psi spring while the stock spring is 4psi. That is why you spike 14.7psi and drop to around 10-11psi. If you ever decide to increase boost, with S1 you can run up to 18.25psi but I would have a wideband in place to make sure your afr's are safe. I would also, if you ever decide to upgrade to an aftermarket wga, get the FM (Forward Motion) wga. You can keep it pcm control boost and hold more boost and longer and to top it off keep the drivability. The Bwoody check valve is for if your running an oil catch can.
yep i have been reading up on your posts and this modd. ill be running the check valve and the oil can along with teh aem cold air. i am going to bolt all of them on all at the same time. stg 1, stg2 wga, cold air, check valve, catch can. ill do the exhaust last since it will be another $800 over what i am at now. i dont wnat to run a lot of boost i would just like to see 14 to 16 psi and she should hold closer to 12 or 13. I would just love to have a little better response from the turbo and with stiffer internals on the stg 2 still get 30mpgs hwy and not need a afg with only a small boot increase. like i said i just want a better response from the turbo not 300bhp adn 350ftlbs just a nice 4.6l killer.
Stock these cars eat up 4.6 liter Mustang GT's.. It took my PCM forever to learn the Stg 2 WGA. I was boostin past 20lbs like it was nothing for quite some time... Then teh computer finally regulated it. I was then spiking 19 or so and it fell down to like 11 by redline... I think it was pulling timing. Wasn't running a wideband either. So yeah get a wideband, its a must if you plan on raising the boost and could save your engine....
I am running stage1 with a stage2 WGA. Initially is spiked well past 20, then settled down to a 19 spike, falling to 16 by red-line. I don't get on my car too much, but when I do get a little spirited with it, 16 PSI seem to be the norm.
what if you use the 3.0 bar tip & map sensors with the stage one kit? what if any effect would these have on the comp. controlled wga? the factory ones are 2.0 bar. would the computer read them as faults or alow you to use more boost? was just wondering.
You cannot run the 3.0 bar tip & map sensor with Stage 1 pcm. Only way you can run them is if you getting the Diablosport and get a tune for them. The factory is 2.25.
If you limit your boost spike to 17 and stay on PCM control, your afr's should be fine if you're otherwise stock.
yep i dont want more than 17psi. i just would like teh stiffer set up of teh stage 2 for better response. psi could stay teh same for all care since ill be all stock besides the stage 1, AEm Intake.... & exhaust will come later... MPx more than likely... mostly for the nosie shell make with in installed.
You should be good, the s2 wga works relatively well with the s1 pcm. When you do install it be sure to reset your pcm. You do this by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 20-30 min then connecting the negative battery terminal back. You will notice at first you might be spiking past 20psi and its because the pcm needs to relearn its parameters and eventually will control and reduce boost to safer levels. If you find it spiking towards 20 let off, get on it, let off, get on it. I wouldn't let it go past 18psi. Should take about 10 min of driving or the first 10 miles for it to learn. Sometimes it takes longer.
If it was like mine it will get up to 20 FAST. Literally floor it and it will get there in a blink of an eye. LEt off right away before of course.
Well my stage one kit has been put on on hold from Mopar. any ways once i get the 4mm pre-load on the S2 Wga and once the pcm learns to control the boost can i adjust it down if its too high? i was just going to do make the S2 look like the S1 that I will be pulling off. length wise and such will that work OK?
You can always adjust it...but you want to let the car learn the new WGA before you make any adjustments. When I first installed mine I set the 4mm preload, but the car was boosting too high.(20+) After about a half hour of driving, not boosting it like crazy but just getting on it enough so the CPU could recognize the change, the CPU learned the new WGA and pulled everything back to the normal(safe) range that it was supposed to be in. If you don't let it learn the new WGA, and lower the setting, the car will end up boosting less than it should by the time the CPU learns the new mod.
