Sorry folks for posting this link but I think some experts need to weigh in on this. The OP seems articulate and has a decent retort for everyone's responses. I figured some of the experts over here could set him straight....and if not....I'm buying a "Fram Airhog" filter. :ronlove:

Unless the dyno and dragstrip runs were done back to back with a proper cool down I'm calling BS. I wish it was that easy!

    Ported TB's = 7hp
    Underdrive Pulleys = 7hp

AirHogs do not = 28 hp

Just doesn't pass the sniff test.

    Here's your response Ron:

Ok, some real Drag racing discussion! I have been drag racing for over 25 years. Here are the numbers so you can plug them into your calculators and tell me your results.

Both runs were at Memphis Motorsports Park. The first runs were done after John Force got done a few days before putting a TON of rubber down on the track and it was the best I have ever seen it. The second time was fair after a few dozen 8 second bracket cars got done putting down the lanes.

    6:42 pm 30/Oct 2008
    60' 2.101
    330' 5.834
    1/8 8.854
    MPH 81.70
    1000 11.454
    1/4 13.644
    MPH 103.16

Second run clean track, fair rubber
    Same Track 4:04 pm 7/Mar/2009
    60' 2.085
    330' 5.817
    1/8 8.816
    MPH 81.90
    1000' 11.412
    1/4 13.591
    MPH 104.14

Now before you jump at the actual numbers go to the Drag Times.com website and get the atmospheric conditions for those days and times and plug the numbers into the DA calculator to get the normalized results. Then go to the HP calculator and plug in the numbers and see what you come up with. I posted my results at the begining of this thread.

It's just a drop-in filter isn't it??? If it is...I could've saved hundreds of dollars and not bought a CAI.LOL

I was going to say in my initial post how much he reminded me of Quick (aka "Data"). I just read: "BTW I am a professional scientist with expertise in Physics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics and Chemical engineering."[/I

Dave....is that you starting shit over at Charger Forums? LOL

Hmmm....here's a quote from the scientist....wonder how he knows this and we don't:

"OK, here's the big reveal. Mopar engineers originally designed the 6.1 HEMI to have 450 hp. The stock air box and intake tube were designed for optimal flow with a high flow air filter installed. Chrysler decided to instead use the same air filter used on the 3.5L SXT engine to get the economy of cost with using the same air filter across all models (check the part numbers for the air filter for various engines) and reduced the hp to 425. They reasoned that they would sell the Mopar blue high flow filter to enthusiasts and make more money than giving it away with the car (which is why the blue rectangular filter was the first mod availble through Mopar) and make even more money. What they didn't anticipate was the sudden outcropping of aftermarket CAIs that people thought looked and sounded cool and quickly rushed out their own CAI to compete. The reality is that the stock airbox with the high flow filter gives more hp but people were willing to spend more for the CAI and Chrysler could make more money. So they buried the true performance data and ignored the hp gains in favor of economics. The Fram Airhog closely resembles the flow of the original design filter and gives the best performance on the stock engine. Most everyone here has confirmed their marketing strategy and believes that somehow a cool looking and sounding aftermarket piece (that was never designed along with the original engine) could somehow do magic and be better than the factory. Now you know "the rest of the story"

Dave, I'll take that as a compliment. I start a useful thread (fell free to search my threads...."brown t-shirt thread") and it gets a response or two! LOL

Jason's threads typically go for pages and pages!!!
