Well thanks again all of you. I'll let you know more in the coming days. Right now, Im leaning towards having the one and only performance shop I. San diego that I trust (Aka: Ralph) remove the blower and return her to basically stock. Sell the blower kit, and reinvest in a predator and get it tuned from there. Ricks tune he had done is excellent. Now if that happens, anyone have a stock air box or cai I could borrow for the time being... If I go that route?!?!
jason, i have a stock air box you can have. i hope all of this does not lead to any problem between us, and i will still do anything i can to help you out.
without going into specifics, if it is only one oor two cylinders you can always just throw stock pistons in to keep the car running. Then order your forged motor when your ready. There are plenty of people and vendors out there who have stock take out stuff just lying around. It is pretty damn easy to do on these cars as well.
OK.... you guys are scaring the sh1t out of me and my non-methed 8lb pully Vortech!!! Knock on wood... no issues yet.... Hope they take care of your ride Momo! If you can't get it working soon, call me.... I'll give you my son's bike!
i have been reading this thread for the past three pages to get caught up, but the whole time i kept thinking of nhdave's car and what you did to his erik!!! jason, if vortech does not step up, which i hope they do, i would seriously consider doing a quick fix to the effected parts and look longer term for the forged set up!!! do you monitor things regularly drew???? and i am not talking about momo's street income........ chris - you read things wrong...... bud is not an asshole...... its momo selling his asshole to pay for the repairs!!! dahahahahaahahahha
Haven't had the $$$ for the new guages to monitor the system, and I race everyone and their grandmother if they pull up to the light. Guess I'll be looking hard into a meth system. Actually thought about having the 5-6 pound pully put back on with the older tune until I can make sure it stays cool.
FIRST: didn't get the chance to call Vortech today. Busy at work. Hopefully tomorrow. God willing. SECOND: Ryan tells me that Vortech does NOT handle the warranty... they have a second contracted company to do that and apparently, its a bit of a run around... take it to this certified shop, submit paperwork, wait, etc. Kind of like going through a skeptical insurance company. Basically, it APPEARS that they look for all the reasons to NOT warranty the repairs. Ralph? Still a douchebag... but I still love the geriatric SOB. You should be scared. While Ryan really screwed the pooch with his, my car ran for maybe a mile and a half with a SLOW leak in the cooler that I didn't even know was there until I jacked her up at home and saw some liquid. That 1.5 miles apparently did me in. Sexy Pants: I like the idea of the piston only fix. As for Drew, he can't monitor because he doesn't have additional gauges. I would suggest checking for cooler leaks! Ralph, please see above about piston swapping (not spit swapping, piston swapping)! JOHN, et. al., thanks for the offers of stock/beginner mod parts!!!! I will likely take one of you up on it. At least on a borrowing basis.
ralph - in this particular case, why not???? yeah, if it was me, i would just opt for te forged motor and be done, but maybe this is not the case for momo. he could put the car into good running condition for a duration long enough to get things where he wants them long term.......i'm throwing out ideas buddy, work with me!! lol
It certainly isn't ideal but it would buy you some time and have a runnign car assuming the block isnt trashed completely. We considered doing this on Lisa's car at first as well. Jason, do you know who the nearest Vortech Top Tier installer is? You will need to bring it to a Top Tier installer or back to Vortech to have any chance of a warranty claim.
no one said anything about ideal......but its nice to know you won't ruin the block driving. And it's not like they balance them at the factory
Sorry I am back late for this convo. Momo I am so sorry to hear about your problems. I am going to side with Ralph on this one in regards to the piston swap. Great way to turn a car around and get out of it. However when a piston fails other things typically go with it. Have you pulled the head to survey the damage to the cyl.? Drained the oil to look for metal shavings? Have you inspected all barings, rings and cyl.? What was the exact failure? I read that the plug was pinched, but from what? Take time and care in replacing internals. Make sure you have answered all possible questions and look for potential issues caused by the failure. I know blown engines more than Ron (not by much though)
I know I was saying that in response to Mol's comment. I totally understand your position Jason I think you need to talk to Vortech before you let anyone else touch your car, the more things that have been touched/replaced etc the less chance you will have at a warranty claim IMO
Again....this would only be temporary if he was waiting on a new motor.I wouldn't throw a piston in as a permanent fix.Generally speaking on the LX when a ringland letss loose it will hit the sparkplug causing it to close. The aluminum land does not generally cause any damage to the head.....it will usually burn up,the damage is caused if the motor was run long enough after the land breaks to cause the ring itself to break, the cast iron ring is not as gentle as the aluminum. Also the tune can be spot on for the S/C as far as detonation goes. What we have seen on the 6.1 and 5.7 with both boost and nitrous are the ring gaps close up due to heat and pressure and then swell and pop the land. Now,if Momo has another car to drive and is going to order a new motor then by all means park the SRT....if he has no transportation and Vortech doesn't play nice a piston is an option to keep him mobile until he can get the new shortblock. oh....as far as material in the pan goes.....I have yet to see material in the pan from a broken ringland or ring.......most of it goes into the intake manifold.
