Well thanks to Stu we were able to have my cam overnighted from crower to him and then from him to me and get it installed only hours before I had to drive 500 miles to Charlotte for the BuilderBill Zmax event. Everything went great. I ran a new personal best over .3 faster than before and still have some tweaking to do to the tune. Headed back to the track this coming wednesday to drop my times some more. New cam going in New cam and offset cam sprocket in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Th980KDrsk
Sounds nice and choppy!!! What's your idle set to??? I found with my set-up, that I couldn't run it any lower than say 780rpms at idle or start having issues with it dropping the idle to low when coming to a stop. There's a fine line between having that badass lope and DD!
I had to bump the idle up to about 900 in D to keep it from stalling when I come to a stop. When in P or N it idles about 750. If I lower it any more than that it will surge like crazy and the oil pressure is very low.
That's pretty extreme for being in D, but I'm guessing you haven't had it fully tuned yet. You should be able to run it around 800rpms in D without any major issues. I spent alot of time with Josh at HHP getting my cam dialed in so it would idle at less than 800rpms and still have very decent drivability. My big issue with dropping the rpms below 780 is that it idled fine while in P or N, but when in D or autostick and I came to any sort of quick stop, the idle would drop down in the low to mid 600's and at times, seemed like it wanted to stall. Also...in reverse at times, it would stall.
It will idle ok at 800 in D but it will still hunt for a few seconds until the car comes to a complete stop. A 112LSA cam is pretty stout for a jeep.
I here ya brotha...I'm running a 112 +4 cam myself! If I can almost idle to a stop, my idle doesn't really drop down at all, but if I stop quickly, it'll still drop down some, but not enough to make it feel like its stumbling much. The joys of having a low LSA cam I guess!
Kickass, congrats. If you get the right guy to tune it, the idle issue will get much better. We had my max hell down to 750 with no issues at all. Whatta think, that's a fast cam up top huh
Oh hell yeah its a beast up top. I'm trapping around 4-5mph more than before and my 60' is still in the 1.7x range.
I just put one in a local charger and 750 is working good for the idle. That car made 410 rear wheel cam only.
