Tonights menu: a smorgasbord of current LX differential offerings. On the left is Builder Bill's 8.8 Ford differential, this one with 3.23 gears. In the center is the 226mm Getrag LSD standard on all 09 SRTs and stick shift R/Ts. The one on the right is the 05-08 215mm open differential, with Quaife LSD available. Just happened to have all 3 in the same place today.
If you can pick it up.........................I'll let you have it. hahaha, the pic doesn't show the size difference between them. The 8.8 is HUGE compared to the other two and weighs like 50lbs more. I highly doubt this unit will break anytime soon.
Being that i already have the 1000 hp half shafts, which one of those diffs would be the most cost effective for me to go with? thx
You would have to use the 215mm OEM unit with or without a Quaife LSD. 1000HP axles don't fit the 09 parts and Builder Bill's uses the 09 fitment too.
I don't plan on getting rid of my h/s so i guess my only options if i want an lsd would be to get a Quaife or OS Giken. Which do you recommend? Thanks
No prob http://www.osgiken.net/products/superlock.html The mopar drift team use them on all there models i believe.
That looks like a GREAT product. I didn't see the LX diff listed as an application though. I also wonder what the cost is compared to the Quaife. If I were still looking, I'd be doing some more homework to make sure I didn't miss this.
If Sam Hubinette approves of this LSD, thats all i need to know. I'm guessing there using a Benzs application, i dunno. As for price, i think it's a couple hundred more then a Quaife. This is definitely the rout I'm going.
Do you notice any big difference quickness wise with the 3.23's? This puts you at the top of 3rd in the quarter right? What are the negatives at going with a smaller gear....3.55's?
I stayed with the 3.06. The top of 3rd in the quarter depends on tire height, horsepower, and gearing. I was planning on using the right size radial to avoid the 3-4 shift. The negatives with going to a taller gear (3.23 and 3.55) is that you lose some top end and your cruising RPM moves up. So with 3.55's, you'll be running the motor at 3k RPMS (or more) just to cruise at 75mph.
Anybody actually tried different gears? I wonder if there's only so far you can go before it takes a tune/programming the pcm? The predator has an option to adjust for gear changes but I think they only adjust for the speedometer. Question is where the PCM takes the signal from and what it checks. Your front wheel speed isn't going to change relative to the rear wheel speed but the input or output shaft rpm at the transmission will change relative to rear wheel rpm.
Fuck Dave....I did a Mensa quiz in the back of the American Airlines magazine today on the flight home....and got 6 out of 10 correct! But you make me feel like a complete dumbass when I read your posts!! LOL
I'm pretty sure that the Predator setting changes more than just the speedo. The 5.7L guys are installing SRT rears and running them successfully with the Predator gearing change. There was also a 5.7 guy who didn't change his gearing with the Predator when running a 6.1 rear and he burned up some of his transmission. Here he is: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showpost.php?p=2263763&postcount=1
