I live in California, a place not known for leniency when it comes to modified cars. Anyways, I don't have a front plate on my car and I know its just a matter of time before I get a ticket. I don't want to drill holes in the front of my car, so what does everyone else do? I can't see any other place the plate could be mounted. Or do I just take a chance that I won't get ticketed? Any thoughts? Thanks.
I live in LA and haven't run a front plate for a long time. I got a ticket maybe twice in 20 years. I'll take my chances.
i live in san diego. 18 years no plate and only 2 tickets (both while parked in front of my work by a meter maid). i would not discress my srt with one. will most likly get a ticket tomorrow.
It's an equipment violation. They give you a fix-it ticket that you're supposed to get signed off when you correct the problem. (I think you can sign it if you say you did the work yourself?). In any event, you can wait until you get the ticket. Then get 4 of those huge suction cups they mount clipboards and stuff to windshields with. Affix suction cups to your plate, suction cup plate to bumper and get your fix-it ticket signed off. If the cops are looking for an excuse to pull you over that's a handy one. Outside of that, it's much more likely you'd get a ticket for no front plate when you're parked somewhere. See "suction cups" above
See if there's a way to mount one of these on the front? I put one on my Jeep. http://www.altecproducts.com/
If you still have the stock grille, the 300C front plate bracket snaps onto the grille. If you really want to run one, you can snap it in without drilling the holes. Then you can take it off for shows. I live in CA too and I've been fine for almost 3 years with no front plate, dark tint, tinted tails, and a loud exhaust (quickly knocks on wood). My front plate is mounted up in the bracket and in the trunk. It fell off in the car wash, honest officer.
For the love of God DON'T drill holes in your bumper, unless you plan on leaving the plate on permanently. I'm in Cali too and I say just don't worry bout it, if you get popped it's a fix-it ticket but you'll also be given the opportunity to just pay a fine and be done with it (without having to fix it). That's what I did last time, it wasn't much money and saved the hassle. Besides, all the state wants is your money anyway.
I live in southern Cali also and i didn't want neither one of my Magnums to have the license plate screwed into the front bumper so i modified it just a little bit by bending the top and bottom to fit over the lower grille.......It's held in by a couple of zip-ties.
haha that is AWESOME... Officer pulls you over. Walks up to car and asks if you know why he pulled you over. You say no. Cop says, "you do not have front plate." You say, huh? It was there a while ago. Cop walks to front of car. While he is going to the front of the car, you hit the switch. Whhoooop Up comes plate. bwahahahaha Cop scratches his head thinking, have I gone nutz? lmao
Right, then the cop tazers your ass for making him look like a fool! (don't forget we're talking bout Cali here, lol!)
I saw a two like that, the only thing is that they are at the botom of the facsica & my front end already scraps the ground at some driveway and street crossings and I have not lowered my suspension yet. Braddah Jay, that's splitting hairs, yes you have a front plate, but, if you trimmed or cut the orginal plate the officer can still play his game with you. Also aren't you blocking some air flow down there that is need ? I've been working on this for a while & put it on the back burner, maybe I should start working on it again. It's a 2 piece bracket were one part is mounted on the car all the time & is pretty much out of sight and really is not that visable and the second part is the licsene plate that attaches when need and can be removed for car show or daily driving. I took on too much trying to do it for all LX's. I have the Charger about done, the Maggie's are not that much different, so, the Charger on may work or need slight mod, but, I will have that done before there out. The 300's are a little bit of a pita, with two different front ends to deal with and more fabbin' and trimmin'. It looks like this is something I need to get back on, pm me if your interesrted ?
I keep my front plate under the floor mat behind the driver seat just incase. I have thought about using some 3M double sided tape (the kind used to hold on body molding) and sticking it to the front bumper in the center, but first bending the top and bottom of the plate so that if forms to the bumper.
Front Fascia for SRT-10 = $2000.+ Yeah....not gonna be drilling into that. Gimme the ticket. That Altec plate thing looks cool, BUT.....with the belly pan on the SRT-10, and a stance lower than a politicians morals, that won't work well. Then again, it'd work better than their website. Did anyone find a price on that thing?
true that. NM tried to pass a front plate bill two weeks ago. SLAPPED down by the House. haha They all drive sports cars. woot.
I've had my car for 3 years now and have recieved 3 tickets for no front plate. One from a BART cop (at least he didn't shoot me in the back) and 2 from Berkeley meter maids. (I hate Berkeley!) Each time I got it signed off and paid a $10 admin fee. It helps to have friends in law enforcement. I haven't had a front plate on my cars for over 20 years and I'm sure not going to put one on the SRT.
