Just installed the Predator, and now one of my fans is hitting something as it spins, creating a rattling sound. John told Rick and I what it was... a spacer that tends to break loose. He said to pull it out. Problem is, what exactly am I looking for? What should it look like new/broken? I checked it out and both fans look the same (no noticeable breakage).
It looks like a tiny little bastard piece of plastic. You'll probably only be able to see the end of it. Look between the fan assembly and the radiator core on the passenger side with a flashlight. Not where the actual fans are, but where the frame of the assembly meets the core. You'll need a pair of pliers, likely needlenose, to grab it. Here is a write-up on it: http://www.srt8oc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10749&highlight=plastic
can you hear it in the car or only when your outside?...hopefully i wont have this but if i do i would like to know the symptoms...THANKS MOMO!...hope you get it worked out!
My bad RALPHY! How the hell I could forget you bro don't know! Must of been those BEANS Drew gave me to eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK. Nearly 3 FUKING hours after Rick and I heard the rattle... I STILL can not get the damed thing out! I was able to see it, its in the shape of a "U", but a strip. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get to. So, I got a long screw driver out and tried pulling it towards the openings in the fan assembly... THEN... The damed thing disappeared. Almost like it 'fell' to the bottom of the assembly. So, I reached under the car, un-bolted the plastic shield undernearth, only to find out: 1. There are plastic clips holding the front down that I could NOT get off. AND 2. The part I needed to disassemble was too far back to reach. So... I took her out of another HOT lap, the fans kicked in and the noise was NOT there. Suggestions? Leave it? Kiss Ralph and John's asses to disassemble and remove the piece or take it to a stealership and let them perform this procedure over the course of 2 months?
If its no longer making noise, the strip probably fell to the bottom of the fan assembly. You can leave it unless it becomes a problem again. If you take it to the dealership, they'll say "Unable to replicate customer's complaint" and not even touch it.
It's still lodged in there. Your fan blades are stronger than the plastic if it decides to move around. I would find a way to get back in there when it's convenient and seek this thing out.
one dealer told me that the part was not even from a dodge car after the removed it...the second one i just pulled out myself...the dealer wont help you. As for the bottom part that you cant remove which part? because we have had my entire front bumper and lower skid plates off...if you need help let me know.
From his description, I'm thinking he had trouble with the plastic retainers that hold the belly pan to the brake ducts and fender liner. Jason, you have to pull the round center all the way out (pry it out with a flat screwdriver) and then the rest of the clip comes out.
Get the belly pan off........you have 4 10mm bolts,9 7mm screws and 6 pushpins that can be removed by prying the heads up........once the pans are off it will be easy to get to.you can even lower the radiator a tad if you need to.
Oh, I do and I'm laughing my ARZ off! Let me know how that works out..................................
Mine was doing this last summer, and I had to tell the dealer what to look for. According to the invoice, they replaced some clips. I don't think it's done it again, although I can't tell from inside the car.
