I was MIA here for about 45 days thru the holidays. Had alot of personal issues and found out that I'm diabetic. Actually, I'm leaving for a Nuclear Stress Test in a little while. See the foot doctor tomorrow morning, a 4 hour class tomorrow afternoon, an echo cardiogram Wednesday morning and a doctors appointment Wednesday afternoon. Had a kidney doctor appointment last Friday, I had to cancel, can't get another one till March 3rd. 14 doctors at the Kidney Institute and still have to wait that long. I found that getting back on here and posting really helped be get out of the deep depression I was in. We have a great family here. I really missed it over the holidays. I only talked to Ron a few times while I was MIA. Our conversations really helped me, and showed what really true friends Ron and Maureen are. I've really only told a few members about whats been going on with me. Tamara was one of the 1st. She is diabetic also. Today is really the only thing so far that scares me some. I may not look, act or seem to be 61, but I am. I haven't taken very good care of myself, primarily lack of excercise, and losing the weight I been wanting to do. I've been heavy pretty much my whole life. Actually, I started feeling physically bad last year, pretty soon after turning 60. Kind of felt like my warranty had ran out. I made a doctor's appointment for Jan 6th, my 61st birthday. Glad I did. Somethings feel better, some worse. I just thought I owed this to our community. I really gives me something to look forward to, and gives Cindy a breather from me. LOL
Nothing but MAD LOVE to you and Cindy, Hal. We will ALWAYS be here for you two, so don't EVER leave us hangin like that again. Glad you are feeling better and finally putting the emotional roller coaster behind you.
Hal .. thank you for sharing this with us. It's something I respect a lot coming from you. You have been a friend to many of us for so long. This community is a great family ... I communicate more or even pay attention to more of you guys then some of my friends! This forum is more then about our SRT's .. a large amount of posts here relate to personal matters and family events ... which is great IMHO!!! Hal, the great thing about these forums is that you can get true advice from people because their answers/opinions are not biased .. a best friend may tell you what you want to here. Sometimes the best advice comes from people that aren't as close to you ... Hopefully this thread has opened the door to more people who can relate with you, share their experiences, tell you real-life what to expect, help you see things clearly/differently .. like how you reached out to Tamara. My own experiences ... I could stand to lose some weight .. I could eat a little more healthy .. I would exercise some more ... An eye opener was seeing my dad have a heart attack WHILE PLAYING GOLF at the age of 52. Seeing that at 25 when you know you're the splitting image of your father is some surreal shit ... I now go to the doctor every 6 months for blood tests and check-ups ... Hal, I wish you the best man. I hope everything works out for you health wise and I am sure a change in your life style is in order. I am sure that won't be hard for you though .. from what you said, you have some beautiful grandkids that can help you through this ... good luck Hal .. my best to you and your family
We all love ya big papa you know that!! Just get yourself feelin better so you can hang with us for another 60 years
You are a big part of not only SRTConnection Hal, but the LX community as a whole. I really enjoy having conversations with you on the phone. I hope you start feeling better soon man. One thing you might need to do though is mail all of your Graeters to me. BTW: I started looking at Temecula and Murrieta, way better prices!
Wow Hal, sounds really serious to me. Let me know and I'll call or you can call me. And for all the other guys coming up on 40something or so, get your regular exams. That's how they catch things like diabetes early. There's a reason they call it the invisible disease! I've been diabetic (type I, where my pancreas doesn't make any insulin at all) for 27 years this month. Over the years I've lost many friends from diabetic camp and have known many other diabetics who died over stupid stuff. If you take care of it, you can live a fairly normal life like me. If not, well. It WILL get you. Hal, I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with diabetes, because well, its a pain in the ass. But I'm happy you were diagnosed so hopefully they can help you get it under control and you don't drop dead. No dying!! You're one of my best friends in this community and you are an awesome guy and it would really suck not to have you around, sparkly pink thongs or not! Besides we gotta race again... I don't think winning on account of broken half-shafts really counts! :bigwink:
Hal, You definitely got friends here bud! Im 42 now and really need to watch what I do, Smoking is killing me. Im gonna make some serious effort to get my priority straight, Glad to hear though that your feeling better both physically and mentally!! Good luck!
Hal, I am with Trojan on this one too....I turn 42 in 2 weeks....last August I had come to a point in my life where I couldnt deny to myself any longer that I needed to lose serious weight, otherwise I would be a fool....a dead fool... So far I am down 80 pounds and still have work ahead...I know diabetes is not going to go away, but it is good that you know you have it and that you know what you need to do to have the best advantage possible....just take care of yourself!!!
Sorry to hear about your health problems, but like the others have said at least they got it before it was too late...It could have been worse. I'm glad your feeling better.
WOW, HAL I am very sorry to hear about this but glad you are doing better. I will be praying that every turns out okay and I will send some special prayers to Cindy to maintain strength during these times. You know I am always hear for you Big H. I am just a call away.. Prayer Changes Things!!!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support. I really enjoy sharing by time with everyone here. Our life style doesn't allow for much social time. Monday is our Friday. Wednesday and Thursday's are our weekends. Many of those are spent traveling. We are getting more time off then we really want at this time due to the economy. We do work for car dealerships and they are dropping like flys. I'll keep everyone updated as all the test results come in. Thanks again for the support everyone. This is a special place with special members, vendors, and friends.
