I am going to be in the market for a new vehicle in a few months and i am really confused and torn on what I want and what is practical. In the running: SRT8 Challenger, Saleen, SRT8GC, SRT8 Charger, SRT10 Quad cab, Hummer SUT This will be the third vehicle in the family, we already have a charger and a dodge minivan. I love the charger enough that it is what has made me consider the challenger and another charger. Problem is I haven't decided if I can do without the ability to pull a camper or small trailer for dirt bikes and 4 wheelers... that's my delma. If I go the car route I will want to mod it and make it very respectful on the street. Anyway... so I was researching the Challenger SRT8 and I read an article by, car and driver I think... they were comparing it to a mustang gt. In the end they talked like it wasn't really any better than the ford because of weight. Is this true?? If so that sucks! I want more performance than that for sure. Also... what has to be done to get a shaker put on the srt8, they are coming on the 09 rt's. I really like the look but want a srt8. If you haven't seen it, do a google search for srt10 challenger. That bitch is BAD looking. That is what I want in an srt8. soooo HELP..
First off, Magazines have proven time and time again that they rate cars with a BIASED opinion. The Challenger in NO WAY can ever be dropped into a Mustang GT catagory, ever. No contest. Now, if you have items that you trailer around, then I highly suggest you look into the Trucks. As much as this family LOVES the SRT10, I think you might be better off looking into the new Ram trucks. WOW! But if you really want the SRT10 model, then the Quad Cab is what you will need.
Ron, I am surprised... you didn't say anything about the SRT8 GC. Not sure how much performance I could get out of a regular new ram. I guess I could always go the 5.7 route and get a SC installed, instead of the srt 10. I am not rulling out a srt8 GC. It would be my ultimate choice, if it was just easier to install a 2" hitch.
haha oops. Yea I really am a huge fan of the GCSRT8 as well, but like you mentioned, it seems to be a pain to add the tow package? That new 5.7 motor is fricken badass. Chrysler hit a home run with that motor. And a Techco "Should" be an easy addition. I make sure that tuning on the Truck is available as well.
Go with the Hemi 1500 Ram...I just drove one yesterday....very very very very nice. Car and Driver put it ahead of the new Ford and the old Chebby. If you can wait awhile, 2010 Ram HD Megacab, that is one badass truck!
I CAN wait awhile, that's not the issue. I think the issue is that I am really wanting something performance. Something to take to the track or to the local hang out and run. **sigh** Maybe I just need a cheap POS 5K truck and a new challenger.
The trailer hitch isn't that hard to install on the GCSRT8. Plenty of guys have done it. If you haven't yet, sign up on CherokeeSRT8.com and do a search. You'll see it's easy. In my opinion, from what you are saying, the GCSRT8 will be your best bet. It's a torque monster, and will kill just about anything from red light to red light. And with minor mods, is a very respectable vehicle. And with a blower, is downright nasty. It sounds like you want a vehicle that can do two things.....tow.....and GO!!! And the only ones listed in your options that can do that, are the SRT10 Ram & Cherokee. And the 09s are gorgeous inside (Cherokee). Good luck dude!!! Chase
No need to goto the Cherokee forum. Just like there, we also have a search function. lol Look what I found. http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4714&highlight=trailer+hitch
Didn't mean to say this wasn't an informative site, I hope nobody took it that way. My bad. Just meant it would be an easy find over there.......sorry. Chase
Seen that post but not what I am looking for. I would like to have detailed instructions on how to do the install that someone did with the 2" receiver in the center of the bumper. The one where the guy even made a plug to hide it, that was the shit. It's also probably WAY beyond what I could do. I would have to pay someone to do it, but if I knew that I could the GC would move way up the list. Chase, you are 100% correct on the tow and GO.
If you are going to haul & tow you want either the Jeep or SRT10 QC.. The 10 will get about the same mileage as the jeep and provide much more room.....The SRT10 is selling cheap right now and you will get a vehicle that is not being made anymore.........Truck if you need max room....Jeep if it provides what you need and you like it.....both vehicles are fun to drive..
The 10 is expensive to mod...it has the lowest production #s of the SRT vehicles excluding the SRT6...mods cannot be mass produced to lower costs...and you have 2 more cylinders to deal with compared to the 8.....this means you have 4 more tubes for headers...cam shaft is longer...and the list goes on...the 10 is expensive to own & mod.....but it attracts a lot of attention..
OK so this is "mustang steve" coming out but..... The thread title says "Mustang GT" but in your "in the running" list...you have it listed as "Saleen"....Theres quite a difference between a "Mustang GT" and a "Saleen" hahaha.... Also, Saleen makes bad ass F-150's that you could add into your search
