this does not surprise me and to take it one step further, i would not be surprised to see the big three, or 2 or the 3 start to join forces and merge product lines.
I agree, the problem with this is the big 3 already have too much overlap themselves with GM the worst and Ford right behind. GM needs to majorly restructure it's products, they got rid of Olds now they need to dump Buick, GM and Saturn. Ford needs to axe the whole Mercury line and Chry needs to downsize too. THEN they can see bout merging, if it happens before then it'll only benefit the one doing the "acquiring" since they'll just axe whatever company they take over cause it'll all be overlap with product they already have. What a mess.
Maybe Nardeli wants a new prowler? Maybe Chrysler will merge with home depot? Just axe all of the big three's names merge them all together and call it AMC!
