Anyone done this to save weight? I only found two bolts to remove, but is there more to it? Maybe someone here has Chyrsler's service book's exploded views on the rear seats ? Thanks for any info!
Liar we all know thats how you ran the 11 :flowers: j/k On Topic- I imagine that best case senerio would be 50#s for the base and back of the seats, On a 5000# vehicle is it really worth the effort ? The theory that every 100#s being worth a 1/10th is generally speaking on a 3000# Vehicle not a tank like we drive. If you really are after it, the front seat would prob be at least 70#s. JMO
Im calling chrysler and see if the patrs guy can tell me just how much the rear seat weight is because this seems like a lot of bs work lol. HERE YA GO STEVE. http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16011&highlight=remove+rear+seat - post # 7 1. Remove the two mounting bolts, one from each side of the vehicle. 2. Slide the rear seat cushion forward to release the hooks from the body pan. 3. Separate the j-straps at the back of the cushion and partially de-trim the seat cushion to gain access to the riser bolts. 4. From under the seat cushion, remove the four bolts attaching the seat risers to the seat cushion pan. 5. Remove the seat cushion and cover.
Ok i called chrysler to get the back seat weight and as it sits it is 84 lbs and thats seat brackets and everything. Looks like a lot of work for .08 hundredths. I guess if you took the hood off to you mite pick up 1.5 tenths.
Sorry thought you had someone told me they had on several occassions maybe it was BJB, bet it was you go fast Jeep guys keep me confused-LOL:friends:
Wade where you get the hood wt? I just called chrysler and they said with insulator and everything that goes on the hood the wt is 38 lbs.
I have no isulator on mine, Daniel weighed it off the Jeep when he was doing my Cermiclear and it's 22lbs http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14957&highlight=weight+hood
Ok well mabe the chrysler parts guy was wrong. He said the hood was 33 lbs without paint and clearcoat and with everything that goes on the hood made it 38 lbs. Anyway you look at its way to much trouble taking the rear seat and hood off to gain a tenth as i see it.
The back seat it easy to remove...the passenger seat is difficult because you need a speciel tool to remove the seatbelt from the seat. It's 4 blots, unplug motor, and unscrew the seatbelt bolt thats under a plastic panel. I've had the seats out once but the track event was cancelled due to weather (sucked) So I've never ran the 1/4 free ballin'.....yet
Liar you told me you took off the uncessary items to lighten up including your undies-LOL Jim I bet the Chrysler guy looked of the regular Grand Cherokee
No Wade i had to give him my vin number so he could get the rite hood and its not worth the trouble to only gain 2 hundredths. Im going to look for a miget that weighs about 100 lbs to drive my jeep lol.
Jim, Is it possible your dealer is giving shipping weight ? I could see all that cardboard and packing adding the weight or Wade is wrong :thongue2:
