Back in Jan. 06 I installed FatMat sound deadening material in my 300SRT. It really helps keep the outsdie noise out of the car and works great when you go to install an aftermarket stereo or loud aftermarket exhaust. www.FatMat.com (I bought the 50' roll) Now that the cooler weather is back in S. Texas, I finally decided to install the FatMat in my Super Bee. The Install took me a few hours each day, after work, to finsh the job. First you strip the trunk of all the interior pieces. You can see the small (yellow) pieces Dodge lays in the trunk from the factory. I take it to the next level. I then start in the spare tire/battery area first. I take the Battery out and lay the fatmat all around where the battery goes. Then I can reinstall the battery and be able to move the car in and out of the garage. Spare tire/ battery area fatmat finished. Then I start on the driver side wheel well area. Then the backside area of the trunk, between the tail lights. Then the passenger side wheel well area. Then the flat part of the trunk leading up to the back seats. Then I take the back seats out of the car so I can get to the floor underneath them. Backseat area finished. I ran the FatMat under the carpet and down to the rear seat floor board, where your feet go. Later on, I will remove the front seats and roll back that carpet and finsh the front half of the cars floor board. FatMat install done for now, and rear seats re-installed in the car. FatMat install done in the trunk area and trunk put back together again. When my car was being repaired from the wreck. I was able to go to the body shop and install the FatMat on the roof of the car as well.
That looks great...FYI, always make that a Do-It-Yourself project. When I had my stereo installed back when I was young and dumb, I was charged for two rolls of dynomat material....Too bad they only put on the trunk lid...and no where else. I have had all the door panels off and the backseats out....bastards.
Does this significantly reduce interior noise with regards to exhaust and road noise? My Neon exhaust is pretty damn loud, and it has a lot of road noise. What I am asking is " how quiet is quiet, and is it worth the day project?"
John, I use rubbing alcohol and a towel to wipe all the surfaces first that are going to get the fatmat installed on. On my 300SRT I had long tube headers, hi-flo cats and zoomers exhaust. The FatMAt did help to quiet the interior down. Much better than leaving it stock. Thank you. Not a lot of patience needed. Since I bought the 50' roll you can cut larger pieces first to cover more area. Then cut small pieces to fill the gaps. It acutally goes pretty fast once you get started and into a FatMat zone,lol.
