Hey everyone, decided on a different route with my car. Back to all pcm control everything then going Diablosport for tuning wise. After speaking with Mains about his Forge unit (discontinued) the only other option I had for a stock location surge valve that was aftermarket was Boomba. Got the Boomba unit yesterday and installed it today. I did the How-To already in the Neon SRT-4 How-To forum. Went to a insdustrial road by my house and had my wife Cheryl catch a clip of it in action just minutes after install. Here you go: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/SRT4-Boomba-Bov-16psi_195950.htm
I had a boomba for 2 days and sold it. I read bad things about it. Compressor surge mainly because the springs are too strong. Couple on SRTforums. There is a local though that has a ported turbo, ported turbo manifold and the goods and his car is fine with it. I don't know I am just skeptical. Sounds good though! 16 lbs spring..how much boost are you pushing? I heard the 13lb one is the best if any. I believe the stock spring is only 4lbs.. http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f24/boomba-bov-question-419646/ http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f24/boomba-bov-399943/index2.html
Thanks for the heads up but like Simon and others stated they are having no issues. Samething there's is doing... mine is doing. Normal driving I have no compressor surge, WOT is when the bov goes off. Just like Simon stated and he's running the 19psi spring. Maybe compressor surge comes from the fact the person is using the stock wga or using an aftermarket wga but trying to run this bov. I'm also running the stock intake/stock airbox. Compressor surge is heard a lot with an aftermarket intake even on just an aftermarket wga. We can also say that those who experienced "compressor surge" either installed it wrong or had a leak around the bov itself. I would be more worried about compressor surge from a wga then a bov. Especially if the bov only goes off at WOT and not during normal everyday driving. I'm spiking 18psi on a FM (Forward Motion) wga on PCM controlled boost. Its not loud at all, just crisp. I think it sounds good!
Hmmm I thought boomba stopped making them as well. The forge that mains has is extra special thats why it works so well. EDIT: Just to clarify its extra special cause it was on my car first not because I did anything to it.
Took the bov off and apart today and swapped out the 16psi spring to the 13psi spring. Sounds wicked! Will have video later on today!
Definately a different sound. Too me, its louder... more noticable then before with the 16psi spring.
Here's the new vid with the 13psi spring... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/SRT4-Boomba-BOV-13psi_196258.htm
Nice, sounds really clean. Youa re right about having an intake and being able to hear flutter and what not. Was a PITA to do that bottom bolt? When I had my AGP EVM I had to take off the damn turbo oil line on top of the car since it was in the way. Boomba sticks out more too.
Put your chest on the valve cover and reach under the turbo. You will only get 1/12 of a turn at a time but its doable. If you have a slim enough gear wrench you can slip it between the oil line and get it off quicker. I always end up taking out the battery to make things quicker.
Taking it off is fine, its putting it back on thats a PITA! I actually had bought a slim flexible 10mm gear wrench for that job. lol. I am going to stay with the stock surge valve, since there really is no benefit with a blue plate or a boomba piece performance wise.
Well its not like the air is going to get hot anyways when it circulates around that turbo! In all honesty I wonder how much of a difference it really makes than the stock surge valve. Plus the Forge,Boomba,Blue plate, AGP EVM seem to leak if not installed perfectly. when I took my AGP EVM the copper rtv had a nice 1/4'' jagged line going all the way to the outside. I was told I should of used a paper gasket AND the RTV. I can get the Mopar piece really cheap locally... If you guys can convince me it does a really good job over the stock surgevalve I will look into putting it on.
Recirculating the air back into the turbo is also a simple and effective way to slow the turbo and prevent it from being overspun. So if you are one of those light switch gas pedal drivers I would recommend not getting a different BOV or WGA cause you will be fighting compressor surge, a lot.
ive never had a problem with the blue plate not sealing, heck ive never had a problem with an ebay plate either. was it installed the right way? there is a centain way your supose to install them.
stillaneon.. if your interested in a blue plate, i just took mine off, and wont be needing it, its yours 10$ shipped. i really like the HKS BOV with the dual valves, so it opens a lot more often than the stock BOV, preventing more surge.
Thanks man, can't wait to tackle those fun bolts. I have expierence with them so it hsouldn;t be that bad.
