When I get them in I am gonna install them myself as I dont THINK it will be that hard (but please correct me if im wrong LOL) Before I do Is this a difficult thing to do? What should I be careful of? Any tips or pointers are appreciated haha basically I'd like as much info as I can get before I go ahead and do it. :ilovesrtc:
Our How To database is a GREAT tool Steve. lol http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=745
un plug the vacuum line from the brake booster. un bolt the intake, and pull forward about 4 inches. un plug the sensor on the back of the intake. remove stock gaskets and take out locating plastic pins. reuse these on the new gaskets and snap onto intake. when reinstalling mani, set it in place to plug in the sensor remembering to re run the vacuum line behind the hoses then pick it back up to set it in place, dont slide it. theres more to the install but these are the handy tips.
OK, Iread a post in the LX part of this forum. Here are my Questions. Do I still need to put the silicone on these spacers. The tips that BWoody gave didn't say to disconnect the fuel rails. Is this a must? I am also gathering that you have to take the cold air kit off, and disconnect the battery. Then loosen the manifold bolts, pull the vacuum line from the booster, pick up and move the intake forward alittle and disconnect the plug, then remove the stock gaskets, and pins, will the gaskets sit on the heads or on the intake? So I don't need anyother gaskets besides these spacers? Maybe add some silcone inbetween these gaskets and the heads? Then move the intake back alittle to reconnect the plug, get the vacuum line and reroute the vacuum line, sit the intake on the heads, retighten to 16 foot LBS in a star pattern, reatach vacuum line to booster. Is this correct or is there more to it? Thanks
Use a torque wrench on the intake bolts Steve, remember the heads are aluminum if you overtorque them you will strip the heads and then have to Helicoil the heads to get the bolts to tighten correctly. Trust me I live and learned with this the hard way, I had to Helicoil my Jeep.
This is the thread i've been looking for! Gotta get this thermalnator gasket installed before summer comes.
That's just because you're such a BRUTE Tony. Might as well be really particular about it. Use a torque wrench and once you get everything finger tight then go around the manifold just taking a turn or two on each bolt until one of them clicks the torque wrench. Then just continue the rest of the way around torqueing each one to spec. Good practice for when you get to your heads and oil pan. Pop Quiz: You should know WHY you're doing it this.
very easy install buddy......so easy a 13 year kidcan do it.... and a 40 year old bald guy...... well actually, these pics were when i was swapping manifolds to black, but same basic thing!!! very simple to do buddy!!!! 10mm bolts on the manifold and remember to pull the vacuum hose off of the brak booster, not the manifold.....you will understand when you look at it!!!
Dahahaha. Way to go Chris... 13 yr old kid. Now Steveo's got no outs for asking when he runs into problems. "...My friend was helping me and HE did this. What do I need to do now?"
Is it necessary to replace the bolts with longer ones or is the stock ones good enough? I have the gasket in my garage waiting to be installed, but wasn't sure if anything else is needed for the install.
