A narrow band sensor has a non-linear output, and switches between the thresholds of lean (ca 100-200 mV) and rich (ca 650-800 mV) areas very steeply.

Also, narrow band sensors are temperature-dependent. If the exhaust gases become warmer, the output voltage in the lean area will rise, and in the rich area it will be lowered. Consequently, a sensor, without pre-heating has a lower lean-output and a higher rich-output, possibly even exceeding 1 Volt. The influence of temperature to voltage is smaller in the lean mode than in the rich mode.

A wide band sensor, on the other hand, has a very linear output, 0 - 5 V, and is not temperature dependent.

A wide band sensor is going to give you a much truer reading of your air fuel readings.

actually narrow bands are just for looks

not trying to sell you mine, but I have them listed on the site and AEM actually is the best priced and very reliable at www.jtsvp.com

plus this month only there is a 10% rebate form on all AEM products .

    thanks

I'm using the AEM UEGO which is a wide-band. Stinker gave the best answer but here is mine. If you want a pretty light show get a narrow band you want to be able to dial in your tune safely and get the most out of your mods get a wideband A/F guage. I've used Innovate before but the AEM UEGO is a no brainer install with no free air calibration needed very simple and comes with the 02 sensor bung and different face plates for your personal taste.

This is the AEM UEGO but I had an SRT face plate made

Here's another explanation. Narrowbands only measure stoich (14.7:1). They basically read 0v to 1v with 0.5v indicating stoich. So all you can tell with a narrowband is if you're above or below stoich. You can't really tell how much above or below. A wideband will tell you actual AFR from about 10.0:1 to 20.0:1.

At WOT you do not want to be at stoich.

If its close to an exhaust smell I think alot of us have smelled it and its random mine got better with a catch can from BT. Some were getting coolant overspray (mostly on the Jeeps) and it would burn off the manifold and you could smell that
