I traded in my C5 Vert for a new '03 Viper. The Viper has 100x more exclusivity than any vette, doesn't matter if it's a Z06 or a regular C6, 90% of the peeps won't know until their right up on you. The Viper stands out more, hands-down. Pro's: My Viper was very mod friendly, bonestock dyno was 449.4rwhp/489.0rwtq (the dyno sheet is on here in the dyno queen listings) - & sorry DRHemi -you won't see 400rwhp stock on a Gen2, you also won't get the 14" Brembo's either. A gen-3 will run high 11's bonestock at sea level. After Belanger headers and full aftermarket exhaust, DC Perf computer tune and a K&N Filtercharger it put down a hair over 500rwhp and 565rwtq (all motor). The T-56 tranny seemed bulletproof, extremely tight shift gate, narrow gas and brake pedal made for easy double-clutching, 345's out back made for awesome launches with minimal wheelspin (once warmed). Torque curve (if you want to call a straight-line a curve) was simply amazing. I had 450rwtq @ 1800rpm's (4th gear/1:1 gear) with a peak of 489.0, making interstate passing in any gear other than 6th near instantaneous. No hesitation, pick a spot and it's yours before people can react, very nice, especially in traffic. Cavernous trunk- I could fit a full hardbag of golfclubs in the trunk with room to spare, the trunk starts directly behind the seats and goes to the bumper. Cons: It rode like a paintshaker, no power seats, no heads-up display, no heated seats, cheesy convertible design, no nav system, no DIC, no 'on-the-fly' suspension tuning & no dsp or traction control. Limited tire selection (345's out back). Insurance ran me ~$130 monthly ($1600 yearly for a 35yo w/a speeding ticket and an at fault wreck). The torque busted my (Percy-like) split-lock friction header bolts three times, to the tune of ~$5500 bucks combined for all three repairs (heads had to be pulled and re-tapped), just an fyi, those bolts "look" great but their shit, unless you've got more money than common sense, stick with stockers. The Gen 3 is an awesome car but it takes about $7500 to make it a 'performance equal' to the new C6 Z06. You get rock-star exclusivity and everybody will want to race you from Cavaliers to Corvettes. You just have to realize that the brand exclusivity of the Viper pales in comparison to the performance exclusivity of the C6 Z06. Stock for stock, the C6 Z06 wins in every category (performance, handling and comfort). The problem with Z06's is, like the Mustang, most non-car afficionados don't immediately recognize the visual differences between a run of the mill 25-thousand production unit C6 from the limited production Z06, similar to the stock Mustang GT's with a stick-on Shelby graphics kit. The Vipers usually never run more than 2500 units yearly. Mine was 1 of 5 made with the Bright Silver Metallic paint, another 400+ in '03 were made with Viper Silver. That's the exclusivity that you're paying for. I tell people I miss my Vette and it's sweet ride but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to missing the rock-star status I received when I owned my Viper, not to mention the numerous kills, being able to hit 161 in 4th and the business cards from milfs found under my wiper blades (3 times). And having said all that, I'll probably be buying an LS3 C6 vert before December (I'm a sell-out, lol!). Daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
lol whos your ins company? bill and ted? no ins will be that low especially with a bike. your parents may be cutting you a huge break.
Country Companies. I also have my homeowners insurance with them. Sorry haven't lived with my parents since I left for college when I was 18. I did get married so It went down. When I was 22 my insurance was 130 a month just on the 300. I did make a mistake, I only have liability on the bike. The bike is $11 a month. 300 is around $60 a month. Also I have only have 2 tickets, one at 16 and the other the 2nd day after I bought the SRT. Both have been removed from my record.
ah, that makes sense. if you have multiple plans through them they would cut you a big break. i have the same through usaa. i dont have a bike though but my ins is around 850 a year full coverage for the charger.
damn I hate you guys and your ceap ass insurance. if I didnt hae such a hih rate I would have my saupercharger on by now and new gears
dude, he lives in a small town most likely. ins is hella cheap in little towns where accidents and theft are low. i actually have my home address for my car ins at my house in auburn....outside of sacto. if i had my ins at my home here in oakland, it would be more than double i would guess.
For the price the Z06 is a great performance bargin, the Vipers are not that bad either. At the ALMS races at Laguna Seca this last weekend I spent some time walking thru the Corvette Corral looking at all the Vettes and I gotta say the C6 Z06 is BAD AZZ!! It's low, wide and just awesome! And who can argue with a pure two seater sports car that's American (just like the Viper). I do find it intersting that the Vettes don't say Chevrolet on them anywhere, not once, they even have their own emblem, kinda funny. As for the Viper that's bad azz as well! I drove one a bit at the SRT TE but I didn't fit in it too well, the seating position is pretty tight (you have to have the door open to get to the seat belt, lol!) so from that standpoint I'd take a Vette I suppose. On the other hand the Vipers are way more exclusive that's for sure, tough call, imo they both rock. Ah I'll prolly never own either of them anyway
Sweet...I've driven that track...in a charger though..behind a scared viper owner who tiptoed thru the corners... And turn 8 goes on FOREVER....
I drive like Miss Daisy, fastest on that front straight was 105-110ish. Still, I get faster every time I go out there. Haven't been in a year but looking forward to going out again. Check out my youtube link in my sig for some videos.
