I got the K&N "recharge" kit (Autozone for $10.99). Came with a pump spray bottle of cleaner (sore finger...) and an aerosol can of oil. Instructions say to apply the oil "liberally" to the crown of the outside pleats, then wait 20 min for it to spread evenly through the filter material, then check the inside for dry spots and put more on the outside till they fill in. (I think you should wait a couple of hours for it to spread -- it's much more even this morning than last night after a hour or so).

Now I can stick my finger into a pleat and it gets oil on it. Not dripping or completely covered but there's enough oil on it that you want to wipe it off before touching anything else. Too much? I think I might have used 1/3 to 1/2 of the can... seems like a lot but some missed, some collected on the top of the can and ran down the sides. It sort of spits as much as it sprays.

I always try to leave it on the "dry" part. I used only enough to get the red tint evenly, like Im painting it. Trying to pass only once an area of the filter. It sounds as if the sprayer you got was faulty too.

    Well... oil wicks slowly.

So now that it seems that I've got it way to wet... I don't think it's worth cleaning again and starting over so I figure it will just suck the extra oil into the manifold and dry up in a bit. Getting just a little oil on the IAT sensor isn't likely to toast it right?

Haha, thanks Cam. It wasn't quite that bad since it sat overnight and nothing dripped off it or pooled at the bottom. The over oiled Mopar is on there and I'm cleaning the AFE now.

    Obligatory CAI comparison:

AFE has the open ended filter, filter is larger, "air box" separation from engine bay is better, tube is larger with gradual taper, tube is very smooth inside where the Mopar is too but the pipe sticks out into the corner of the 90* to the TB.

but... the Mopar looks better, is noticeably louder and sounds sooo much better :thumb2:
