Its sweet and all but I have a problem with buying a unit that comes with 2 (canned) base tunes... then one gets emailed to you from Rage-Tek. In which, all 3 tunes may not even work with your setup. You would have to lower your boost and blah blah inorder for things to work.

So now it comes down to these ridiculous prices on top of the unit price....
It is said by Rage-tek to setup a tune specifically for your setup on their dyno will take anywhere from 1-4 hrs. So lets say you have a more complex setup... that will take 4 hrs to get a tune for...
If you pay for the unit on Paypal they are asking for the 2.5% fee so its $404.39 shipped for the Predator, not paying through Paypal its $394.99.

So take either or payment for the unit plus 180 an hr x 4 hrs = $720.00

Paypal unit plus 4 hrs for tune = $1124.39
    Non-paypal unit plus 4 hrs for tune = $1114.99

Granted this is worse case senario.

Now lets say your out of state... you send information on your car for them to make you a canned tune specifically for your car ($80). You flash the tune and come to find out you need some more tuning... thats an additional $110 an hr. Lets say later on your swapped out or added a mod or mods. Using that custom tune and needed it updated/changed its an additional $110 an hr.

The costs are great and I'm the type who likes to control my owns tunes and not be locked to one.

Yeah the end user will have fan control and little adjustments but according to the thread I read if you want control like SCT PRP (more control), you would need to buy the CMR package which is similiar to SCT PRP but it cost $2,500.

I'm not against it, I'm looking at the cost and what the end user gets if they benefit from spending so much. Its a great unit but every SRT-4 is different and everyone's setup maybe similiar but none are a-like.

OK, cats out of the bag, tool is ready to go.

As for the pricing comments....there are many other options to consider.
Believe me when I tell you that nobody with a HEMI and a CMR tune has as much as $1200 into a tune. Not to mention, custom tuning on cars that really need extra attention should be done on a dyno in person for bets results....

If anyone has any questions, I am starting a new thread in the Diablo Q&A section.

    Thanks
    Mike

figs, that's part of the reason that these canned tunes have always been an issue. they've been using them in the mustang world for a long time, but they can because they've been doing it a long time. it's gotten to the point were any set up you have basically has a base tune that can be emailed to you. but there's no substitute for personal tuning with a professional on a dyno.

which is why i will continue to say AEM EMS FTW.

this can be a good alternative for those that aren't heavily modded and don't plan on doing much else and want to get the most out of their current set up. but for serious power? ems is still the way to go imo.

I agree with you Amy. I was on the phone about 2 days ago with a friend and explained to him the same thing. When you start weighing out the costs you might as well go standalone and get the AEM EMS.

The only canned tunes at this time available are minimum. So at this time for anyone's setup its going to cost greatly.

I still don't understand how you can just call someone, tell them your mods, and they are able to create a tune for you. That seems a bit risky and then again you don't know if your getting the best results. Wanting best results will make the costs more greatly. With only one vendor so far introducing it right away then another following behind, I can see it as a revolving expense until someone in the SRT-4 realm has it down right.

The Diablosport Predator has been out a lot longer for the HEMI based vehicles then the one just recently released for the SRT-4, so of course you can't compare the costs between the two. Especially when the canned tunes at this time provided are for a basic to stock setups. Minimum bolt-ons to no bolt-ons. The HEMI based has been covered greatly to the point there's tunes for almost everyone and some with little adjustments needed made.

The SRT-4 I read, comes with (2) tunes. If you want something specifically for your setup then you can get a canned tuned with said list mods or you can go ahead and pay more to get a dyno tune. Top it off the custom canned tune, if its not to your liking and needs to be adjusted in anyway will cost you more according to Rage-Tek. So pretty much for someone who has the mods I have on my SRT-4 or even the mods my wife has on her SRT-4 the canned tunes are worthless to us. We would need to pay more to get tunes specifically for our cars and giving someone my mods over the phone doesn't seem like that interepts my cars behavior to anyone unless they have the car right there. There's plenty of shops I know that dyno tune for $125 an hr around my side of FL. Rage-Tek is wanting $180 an hr for some newly introduced unit that they just recently started working with. So even they don't know everything about it. Yet want to fill everyone up before even doing intial testing on different SRT-4's with different setups and mods.

I'm not downing the unit at all Mike. I was interested in it until I saw the prices that follow after the fact you buy the unit.

I think you will be amazed at how versatile the handheld unit alone is.
It gives you full control over timing and fueling at WOT, plus boost control, and that's pretty impressive for $400....

If anyone is in our area (cincinnati, Oh) and would like to come by for dyno tuning, we could work out a great price for a full custom tune.

i believe that when the cmr dealers get a good handle on the software, that the predator will be a BETTER tuning option for the high hp guys than the ems
