I've decided that I've had enough of the Kicker stereo system. I was thinking about just upgrading the amp for starters, either a 4 or 5 channel amp to power the 4 6x9’s and maybe the subwoofer and/or 2 of the 3 small dash speakers. Alpine makes a nice 150wx4 channel amp or a 75x4 plus 300x1 5 channel amp. JL Audio makes a 5 channel amp with 25x2 in the back 100x2 in the rear and 250x1 for the subwoofer. If the amps 4 channels provide enough power I might try running the two front 6x9’s and the 2 of 3 front 3 inch speakers on the front channels otherwise I will keep the 3’s running off the factory amp. Does this sound like a plausible or effective solution? Would the ohm ratings of the factory speakers be a problem? Are the front 6x9’s one way, they seem to be crossed over like a subwoofer, would they sound horrible if I had them running like a standard speaker or would I have to replace them to get descent sound out of their spot? I suppose if I had them and the 3 inch speakers running on one channel their would be some nice quality highs upfront. Anyone know what the kicker speakers are rated to handle? How about the factory wiring, can I use it? At what wattage would it no longer be safe or effective? I could also use an aftermarket amp to run 2 of the 3 small dash speakers and the rear 6x9’s and leave the sub and front 6x9’s on the factory amp, there are lots of options, input would be greatly appreciated.
Your best bet is to replace the speakers all together if you really want to upgrade. I'll be replacing mine pretty soon as well. My subs are complete.
i replaced all of my speakers after finding that the factory kicker system was truly shit under load. i would do the same again. i got a 4 channel running my components front and rear, then another set of 6x9s in the rear with another amp powering my 12 that replaced the kicker. jesus drew, i forgot you had all that noise in the back haha. how can you listen to only bass? shit, i lost that part of my hearing when i was doing it in hs.
What...huh...somebody say something? Lol! Ya, not as "fond" of the bass as I was in my younger years. Actually had to disconnect two of the subs.... my five year old told me she was bouncing all over her car seat!
haha, yeah man, i dont know how your car doesnt rattle apart. all the dynamat in the world cant silence 4 12s.
They do make a replacement amp for our set up, but even though our speakers are a little better than normal high-end stock speakers there is definitely room for improvement. Most speaker companies, even Kicker, won't put their best speakers in a deal to auto agencies for the simple reason of saving $$$ for them. Now unless you're buying that Lambo with an Alpine set-up, you probably can do much better with an aftermarket set-up. You don't have to go crazy with the price. Shop around and don't jump on the first deal you see. But yes, you can put a little more juice into the stock speakers and it will improve a little, just not what you're used to if you have bought hi-end before.
what amp are you referring? If I was to purchase 4 6x9's and an amp what would you suggest? thanks agian,
