I'm still not quite ready to pull the trigger on a stage 2 heads and cam package, but am interested to see if anyone actually has SHR's heads and cam. I'm more interested in anyone with their cam actually since I'm probably going to get HHP's stage 2 heads, but I want an aggressive cam with some lope to it and unfortuneately HHP's stage 2 cam is pretty tame sounding even though it makes great top-end power. SHR's custom cam sounds BADASS, but I'm wondering how the driveability is and if its throwing any codes. On another note...I know HHP's stage 1 and 2 cames have a LSA of 117 which seems to correspond to the great top-end power they make. If getting a cam of say a 113 or 114 LSA, will I lose top-end power? If so, then I assume I would have better low-end power instead? Any thoughts anyone???
I know your running the HHP stage 2 cam. So how do you like it??? I know its got alittle bit of lope to it...at least alittle bit more than my stage 1 cam. What rpm is it idling at?
It idles at 800. For me, it's what I wanted. It's really just enough to suspect things aren't all they seem to be under the hood hehehe. I would have kicked myself if I didn't get the torque converter with this cam. She pulls every last bit from 3000 (moreso 3500) up until 6500 rpm. Just a killer top-end hauler. I entirely satisfied with the package. My installer Luke from Michigan speaks very highly of the Spartan cam though...it's sounds wicked and a lot of low-end grunt from it. Inertia cam I believe. You can find a handful of recent threads at LXF about it....since it's relatively new.
Thanks Milan...I'll jump over LXF and read some threads about the Spartan cam. Hopefully someone got some vids of it cause I'd really like to hear it. Tony, there's no other name for the stage 2 cam by HHP. Its just called the stage 2 cam. They have a stage 3 cam, but that's there stroker cam for the 392 and 426 stroker motors.
I am running the Spartan with Stanko heads and love the new power. The both made a great combo. I can tell you that I have had it installed for about 2k and have absolutely no problems what so ever. Idle sounds very nice, you can hear it but its not crazy.
The HHP stage 2 cam is a pretty big cam...547 Intake 553 Exhaust, 220/228 at 050 duration on a 117LSA. There's bigger cams out there obviously, but this cam makes great top-end power and so far noone has beaten the HHP stage 2 package 1/4 mile time of 11.75 that one of its customers did with this package. The only thing for me that I don't like is that the idle is pretty tame with very little lope to it. I have the stage 1 cam and its so smooth that my dealer doesn't even know I have it installed. If I step up to P&P heads and a bigger cam, I want an aggressive cam with very noticeable lope to it. I guess I'm sort of old school when it comes to this...I want everyone and their grandmother to know that its got a cam in it!LOL This is why I'm asking around about some other cams at this time. The HHP stroker cam is BADASS sounding, but won't work in a 6.1.
Bump for a cam discussion from the peeps who now about cams. I'd love to know if anyone that's running a more aggessive cam with some good lope to it(non-HHP) are having any sort of drivability issues due to the lope of the cam, such as CEL's(mis-fire codes) or stalling out when going into reverse etc. Come-on guys I want to know more about some of the other vendors cams out there and how there doing on the street(daily drivers).
PM 04hemipwr at LXF. His name is Luke and he did my install. He has installed a ton of cams in our cars and has a few favorites. Tell him Milan sent you and he'll be helpful....
The HHP Stage II cam works very well. And spec wise, it's not that big. Developed before CMR tuning. I'm pretty sure the Southern HotRod cams were developed after CMR tuning. You can run a bigger cam and tune out issues of that would stall a motor before CMR. I'm pretty sure I'm running the biggest cam in the country for a street car. It's idling at 850 now, with a very nice lope. Was surging and stalling before the CMR tune.
Paxton man call andy or Stu they will help you deside on what best for your car. you cant go wrong with either of those guys. I think HHP is a bit $$$$ but still a good company How much bigger is yours than mine. I run a 232/242/113lsa I think thats the biggest NA cam being run right now. YOur is for F/I right hal
Well, we built the car to be a very strong 10.3 CR NA car with the heads and cam designed as a compromise. So it did 505/506 NA. The cam pulls strong down low also. No low compression for me. This is a street car. Who cares about big boost. I don't plan to ever run more than 8 to 10 lbs. Will usually only be 4 to 6 on the street. Hell, it's a monster NA already. Now if it was 8.8 to 9.5, it would be a turd now. Yes it is bigger, and my LSA is 116. Lift is .609 on intake and the dureation is quite a bit bigger. I'm not supposed to list my specs. I told you the specs at Sac. Good thing you don't have a good memory.
Yeah, like for towing, mild street, street/strip, track, FI, etc. with RPM power ranges, recommended mods for each cam for best performance. Most just want a list of specs which they have no clue about. Just listing a bunch of numbers tells you nothing about a cams characteristics. As Ed Curtis said in an LXForums post. He has over 50 224/224 grinds during an argument with the FRI clan. Being bigger isn't always better. You can get two cams from different vendors with basicly the same lift, duration, and LSA, and will be amazed at how completely different they run in your car. I have custom cams made exactly for what I'm doing to my car. I now have my 3rd custom cam in my 8.
whats up fellas!..this is another reason why i decided to start posting so i can give my honest opinion on what ive seen and experienced in person...as for shr heads and cam i dont see any reason you wouldnt get both from eddie,im pretty sure he can get you any cam made for you that you want.let me tell you ive heard several cars with shr cams in them and they were bad ass! and as for performance ive seen eddies car run a 12.3xx(NA) in 90degree,1000% humidity louisiana crap weather and that same night i ran a 12.4xx with a 100shot.also he had tall 29in dr if he had some 26's and me behind the wheel i think the car would have run a lil better!..lol..just give eddie a call if you havent already and just shoot the shit with him i promise you you wont be dissapointed.oh yea by the way im about to pull the trigger and get the actual heads, cam, and long tubes that was on his car!
that is exactly why i wanted someone to tell me about the cam....the numbers to me mean nothing...might as well be gibberish hahaha so a small writeup of the cam would be awesome so that i know what the deal is.... As of right now...i have no idea what cam i'd want because i know nothing about them and i'd have to go PM 50 different people and talk to every vendor and still not be sure... I know that when i get my heads/cam package...i want the most aggressive possible cam that can be tuned to the street so that its a street/track monster (as much as reasonably possible)...as of now...NO clue what that would be lol
