Does anyone know where to find a comprehensive list of the Chrysler specific OBD II parameters? Those would be the ones they defined outside of the standard PIDs. Ideally with a description and definition of the parameter itself (like value range and how it's reported in the response message).
Like OBD II scanners. Predator (logging), DashDAQ, DashHawk, ScanGuage, etc. The OBD II standard defines a number of required PIDs (Parameter IDs) like Engine Coolant Temperature. These are values that can be polled through the OBD II diagnostic port. You send a request message with that parameter ID (to the PCM/ECU) and you should get back a response message containing the current value for that item. If you support OBD II you must support those parameters. The standard also allows for optional user defined parameters (user would be the car manufacturer). There is some range of parameter IDs that you can use for anything you want. These don't have to be supported and can be different (or non-existent) from mfg to mfg. Current Gear and Target Gear are an example of Chrysler specific parameters. You send a poll message with that parameter ID and the PCM will respond with an integer value indicating the gear you're in or about to be. Chrysler has about 300 of these. Some will be supported on some cars and some won't. MDS parameters for example. There is one parameter that indicates if MDS is supported on this car or not. On a 5.7L that would be true and a 6.1L that would be false. Then there are a whole bunch of other related MDS parameters that wouldn't apply if MDS is not supported. So somewhere there's a list of all the Chrysler specific OBD II parameters. The ID, Description, returned value range and format, maybe poll rate supported for that parameter, etc. I'm looking for that. (heh, I'm sure I could get that at the next SRT Engineer chat session... not )
Oh shit for sure. Just call Aeroforce, theyll have that whole list. You know, the Aeroforce interceptors. www.aeroforcetech.com Thats all they do is make scan gauges. Theyll be able to tell you which parameters are enabled for which ECMs and the whole 9.
Lol, isn't everybody dying to know this? Actually there are a number of Chrysler pids that are also defined in the generic list so Chrysler must have enhanced or changed values or maybe polling rate, or... I don't know. For example I think the generic Timing Advance returns an integer value in degrees and the Chrysler one returns a value to the 1/2 degree, like 21.5. And you always got to wonder what's available to be looked at right?
Is that a trick question Dave? For me its...NO! LOL Either you were a Valedictorian in high school, or you were a "C" student because you got bored with it.
I thought they were shown in the DashHawk manual or the site. I know I have seen them somewhere. This isn't a bad list. http://www.vehicleinterface.com/enhanced_parameters_chrysler.asp Here is some good info on OBDII.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Board_Diagnostics Access all 90 OBDII parameters on your laptop...OBDII connector to USB: http://www.drewtech.com/products/Mongoose/mongoosesci.html
That's a pretty short list. There's at least 20 or 30 parameters just for MDS and they aren't showing any of them.
Dave, While I was googling this OBDII matter (especially trying to find the parameter ranges). I found this UNREAL cool looking device. Not an DashHawk but a DashDaq. It supports LX platform Chryslers Damn....Where were these guys when we got our DashHawks. "DashDAQ Series II is a product designed for car enthusiasts by car enthusiasts. It offers Customizable Gauges, Data Recording, Diagnostics, Navigation, Performance Calculation, and more all from a high resolution color touch-screen." http://www.dashdaq.com/index.html http://www.dashdaq.com/features/gauges.htm You MUST see this. It even supports add on sensors.... WIDEBAND SENSORS O2, acceleromter and a thermocouple. Maunal.. http://www.dashdaq.com/downloads/DashDAQ_Web.pdf NOW That is funny... I go to the DAshDaq forum and low and behold.... Dave is already there, asking data questions and has one on order. I thougt I had really found something new Hey Dave where did you find out about it?
Not to my knowledge, I've been sniffing and recording this for a year off and on with Vehicle Spy on the Can Bus, but I have yet to find the whole list on the net. (I guess thats why it's manufacturer specific LOL) J
BTW I finally got the PCM ID's all identified and counted all of them today. The Jeep GCSRT8 PCM alone has 356 separate item ID's on the Can Bus. Not all are PID's. Some are OBDII ID's, but all can be pinged for. I'm working on the TCM now. BTW how many PID's can be queried by the Diablo, and Dashhawk? Jeff
I think a couple of hundred by the DashHawk? (for some reason 230 sticks in my mind). Diablo much less since they pretty much only support the generic OBD II parameters and a few Chrysler specific ones. The exhaustive Chrysler specific list is over 500. Some of those are sort of duplicates of the generic ones. For example the generic spark advance reports degrees as integers. The corresponding Chrysler specific parameters reports in 1/2 degrees. A few of the DashHawk parameters are not really parameters at all but derived values.
Dave I see what your looking for now you want to compliment the Dash Daq If you can find someone with a StMo that can plug into a MDS car and then use the flight recorder mode and poll the vehicle, the StMo will at least give you a complete list of the ID's for that vehicle. For instance a MDS equipped 5.7 engine.. it won't indicate the Can Bus ID's or messages but at least it will give you a complete list of what can be read or pinged for.
I'm not really looking to compliment anything but more looking for the list with the description and definition of the parameters so I know what they mean. I have no intention of doing or enhancing a scanner myself. But if I have a huge list of parameters some of them are not obvious from their names. - Stuff like what's the value mean? - Is it derived? If so, from what? Like the Cat Temp. We don't have temp sensors in or around the cats (or anywhere down there that I can see) so that's a modeled value. What went into that? - What's the poll rate? or more importantly how often is it updated? and how? Some temp value might only update if it changes some amount, or it may only update at some time interval. - The generic OBD II spark advance is reported as an integer but the Chrysler specific spark advance appears to be reported to the 1/2 degree. Mainly it's "what the hell does this mean?". They got a parameter named "Torque Reserve Requested (true/false)"... ??? Des PWM Rad Fan? IAC Total AirFlow? stuff like that. I can only imagine what they mean and if they're supported on my car.
