Sooooooooo, what would you guys do if your kids closed the garage door on your car??????? My son almost crapped himself when he realized what he did...... not the worst thing in the world, but for those that have seen my car it person, there is not a single ding in the entire car!!!! it is SPOTLESS!!! well, not anymore........:cry2: the door hit the spoiler, the trunk near the srt emblem and REALLY hit the bumper!!!!!! i guess i need to adjust the safety features of my door!!!! :getlost:

Chris, sorry to hear and see that. I got my first 3 major dings within 4 weeks of buying the car... I know of this pain of which you speak.

I just got 3 bicycle dings fixed at Dent Pro ($234). The proximity alarm helped a lot in behavior training. What to do? Change the garage door over to manual.

oh man chris i feel your pain. my dad did the same thing to my show camaro a few years ago. left the tail sitting too close to the garage door manual handle. the handle ripped a line right down my rear bumper. i held that against him for a realllllly long time haha. he tried to lie about it but i knew better....and so did my mom.

i wish!!!!! the bumper part in the pics is beyond the clear, paint, primer, and plastic!!!! it is gouged badly in thin little lines!!!!

    sucks too!!!!!

but i am too lazy to get out of the car to manually open the door!!! not to mention that as much as it rains in florida in the summer months, i would hate to get wet!!! lol

oh this is beyond any kind of buffing.... the pics suck, but the scratches are more like thin gouges in the bumper. this one might actually need a tiny bit of filler to smooth before paint!!!

bro, those pics are AFTER the sharpie treatment!!!!! before it looked like a bar code on something!!!!!

yeah steve, my older son has been awfully cooperative since this happened!!!! lol

new paint...... i have pondered that......do you know and GOOD painters.....wait, maybe you don't.....:D

Chris, how old is your garage door opener? I installed a new one a couple of years ago and it has sensors at the base of the garage door - it won't allow the door to come down all the way if it senses something in the way. You might want to look into a new garage door opener with the sensors. The sensors actually mount to the bottom of the rails and shoot a beam across near floor level - if they sense anything is there the garage door will come down a few feet and then go back up. This maybe a wise investment. Oh...sorry about your car!

Required by law now I think (for sure in CA). New openers have to have the beam sensor at some height off the ground as well as the door landing on something. The pressure obstruction sensor doesn't help for this but it won't break legs or crush your rib cage.

Another solution would be the tennis ball hanging from the roof that just touches the windshield, rubber tire stops on the floor, infa red beam up front that operates the stop light hanging on the back wall...
Any of those would help make sure SOMEBODY PULLS ALL THE WAY INTO THE GARAGE.

That blows Chris...I have always worried about that exact thing happening to my car with 2 kids and a wife. I have a "light" switch on the wall inside the garage by the door going inside my house that shuts off power to the garage door opener...and use it!

    Lol

Seriously, I have had the gayest stuff happen to my car. A couple of Thanksgivings ago some rogue arctic blast rolled in for about 10 minutes. My car was all safe in the garage...NOT. It blew a sheet of plywood tucked up against the wall over. What did the damage was all the heavy-ass shit that was in front of it and shorter. It ALL piled up against the passenger side of the car.

And then there was the dog-sized deer that avoided 47 cars and semis only to spin on a dime and spin wheels (hooves) right in front of MY car in heavy traffic.

And don't forget about the 4th of July incident. Without going into too much detail, I attached a...troublemaker...from my 215 gallon saltwater aquarium to a firework...well a rocket really, but whatever. It took off, did a perfect 89 degree turn and flew plumbob level directly into the back of my Charger. No shit. I even said that I think.

Hahaha. You might have taken him out but he didn't go down easy.

You must have missed the part where Chris said he was lazy. Manual light switch won't do. Here's an idea. Have somebody wire this up for you. Pretty simple circuit.

Put one infra red beam a little ways into the garage (beam 1).
Put another beam all the way up front (beam 2). This one can work the stop light on the back wall too. For penance you can have the boy go out and steal you a real stop light (very cool to have in the garage).

Beam 1 clear -> opener power ON. Stop Light GREEN
Beam 1 broken and Beam 2 clear -> opener power OFF. Stop Light YELLOW
Beam 1 broken and Beam 2 broken - opener power ON. Stop Light RED (that would be the top light)

    Fully automatic
