I ran a new personal best for E/T (12.509) and Trap Speed (113.19) at the Mopar Nationals this past weekend. Only power mods are RDP tune, RDP CAI and catback exhaust. Here were my runs (uncorredted and corrected) for the weekend:

    Friday, August 8:

    12:05 pm: 12.628 @ 109.98 (12.33 @ 112.61 corrected) DA: 2121
    2:02 pm: 12.653 @ 110.14 (12.32 @ 113.03 corrected) DA: 2305
    4:09 pm: 12.629 @ 112.09 (12.28 @ 115.15 corrected) DA: 2390

    Saturday, August 9:

    12:57 pm: 12.543 @ 113.19 (12.19 @ 116.38 corrected) DA: 2456
    3:47 pm: 12.630 @ 112.32 (12.26 @ 115.63 corrected) DA: 2559

    Sunday, August 10:

    10:45 am: 12.509 @ 113.03 (12.25 @ 115.36 corrected) DA: 1873
    2:35 pm: 12.529 @ 110.79 (12.24 @ 113.37 corrected) DA: 2072
    3:36 pm: 12.581 @ 112.98 (12.27 @ 115.80 corrected) DA: 2204

After my first run on Sunday, I am driving down the exit lane of the track and I notice smoke starting to pour from under the hood. I get back to the pits and open the hood to find oil sprayed all over the left side of the engine bay, on the hood liner and everywhere. I thought that I had finally broke the car (and how am I getting home). I noticed that the dipstick was pulled up and the seal was clearly out of the tube. I guess that I had enough oil pressure during the run to blow the dipstick out and oil went everywere. I taped it down and kept running. So far, I cannot see any other problems. Ever happen to anyone else?

Nice Sam!!! That's pretty good air for August, but just wait until this fall! You should turn low 13s no problem!

It's amazing what you can do with these cars if you take a moment to learn them instead of throwing cam and heads and a ton of other money into them. What were you 60 footing? You have a converter and gutted cats, but no drag radials right?

Did you get any respect from the old school MOPARs there?

    Again, that's smoking!

Awesome times Sam!! Huge congrats! I haven't heard anything myself about the dipstick coming out like that but perhaps it was already kind of loose. I got some halfshafts myself and will be installing them soon hopefully so I can't wait to run some 17's on this thing. Very impressed with the times my friend, you're definitely doing things right. What do you launch at off the line? Can't remember what you told me, but was it up to full stall or?

First off, Congrats on the new PB!!! Now dont panic, but thats what my car did when I busted a ring gland on piston #1. The oil pressure from the blow by pushed my dipstick up and oil went all over the left side of the engine bay. The car still drove fine. Wasn't untill I did a compression ck a couple wks later did we realize. May wanna ck it out. Better safe then sorry!

Thanks! I Agree, can't wait to run in some negative DA. I should be able to get low 12's for sure. I did put a set of 17 Hoosier drag radials together on 17x9 Cobra R wheels and ran them for the first time this weekend. All of my 60' were in the high 1.8's and my best was 1.867. On my 12.509 run the 60' was 1.873. They probably have a lot to do with the PBs.

You know, the guys who seemed to appreciate the car and the times the most were the old school Mopar guys who were running 1960's model 9 and 10 second cars (Darts, Furys, Savoys, etc.) and the guys running 6 second rail dragsters. A handful of them would make it a point to stop over and see me after each run. Not too many comments from 1970's muscle guys who's cars sounded badass but ran equal or slower than mine. All of the LX guys were great and asked a bunch of questions about the car. A bunch of people walking through the pits stopped and looked at the 17" DRs and asked a lot of questions about them.

Thanks for the heads up. Believe me, I am still worried about it becuase everyone that I asked about it said that it would be highly unusual for the dipstick to blow out like it did. I will have to get it checked out.

You'd know in a Hour if you remove a plug from every cylinder and run a gauge. I suspect somethings up. Hopefully Im wrong.

I still don't know that I am lauching it right but I have been experimenting between 2200 rpm and full stall. It seems like 2500 rpm is working good. I got a tip that I have not tried yet though. I am going to try to stall to 2500 and completely let off the brake before I mash the gas rather than letting off the brake and mashing the gas simutaneously. I want to get better 60' time but maybe the 275/40/17 won't allow much better?

With a converter and drag radials you should be able to 1.7 60 foot easy, and really should be able to get in the 1.6s - do you cook the tires too much and they get greasy?

Mike COMP T/A has got a stock converter and Mickey Thompson E/T streets and he can 1.7 his car in a good run. He's heavy on the gas though, and blows quite a few launches too because of it.

This air does give a guy DA dreams though, below 0 is pretty rare, but it does get down to 0-500 at least a few times.

I need a few mods to try and keep up with you though :)

    Eric:

I am working out of town this week. I am taking it for a compression test next Monday. I had it out yesterday before I left and it is running good with no evidence of a problem. I have since talked to the service tech at the dealer and he says that he has seen this happen before and thinks that I'm probably OK. He races and builds high performance cars and is probably the only guy I trust at that dealership. I also communicated with the guy who tuned my car and he says this can happen and he does not anticipate I will find a problem. Either way, I will know for sure on Monday. I will either be on the track again on 8/23 or starting to upgrade the motor sooner than I antipicated.

BuckeyeGoats.com (GTO site) is having a track rental at National Trail on 8/23. There are only 31 cars signed up (probably means 25 will show up). You have any interest?

I sure do love beating GTOs :)

I'd say probably not, I am having neck surgery on Friday the 29th and I don't know if I can get away for a play day so close to it. Not going to rule anything out yet though :)

Sorry to hear about the need for surgery. Hope everything goes well for you. Let me know if you can get away.

I have gone to the BuckeyeGoats track rentals before. They are a great group of guys to race with. The thread you attached is pretty funny. There are usually some pretty fast GTOs at the BuckeyeGoats events. I think that I would be a middle of the pack kind of car there.
