    Steve,
Absolutely agree with your bottom line assessment.
    Solvable though.

You know, I got an email from Arrington months ago, stating that they had some prototype TBs available for testing and asked if we'd be interested in one.
I replied that we indeed would like to see one to work on calibrations, and that we could test on our 300C SRT8.
    Problem is, nothing ever arrived??
Wish we could help, just have not seen one yet.

I gotta say though, for $1000 it ought to calibrate itself!!

    Thanks
    Mike

Well, not so much unrealistic throttle angle (but maybe). So the TC is one thing. The injectors off on decel is another. I would expect the effect of either to be significant. If it is both at the same time the effect would be that much more.

If the A/F readings peg in sync with the surging then it might indicate that decel mode is being triggered. Throttle angle and engine speed are inputs to both TC lockup and decel mode. (indirectly for decel mode, since engine speed and throttle angle should directly correlate to MAP). So yes, throttle angle, or the TPS signal could be triggering it? IF it has something to do with the TPS (and maybe actual throttle position) the symptoms look like it's a fluctuation rather than a static condition? Like the signal or throttle is "pulsing" open and closed. If it's only decel mode maybe it could be a "pulsing" of air flow causing the abrubt change in MAP needed for decel mode.

Logging A/F, MAP and the TPS signal might confirm or eliminate much of the above. I would think a StarScan could tell you PCM operation mode? That would identify if decel mode is involved. If you know the TCM algorithm then the inputs to that could also be had from the PCM to see if lockup is involved.

I have spent a few days paying close attention to this phenomenon and am convinced it has something to do with the TB. When the fuel injectors are off I get max decel and the A/F gauge reflects a 20+ A/F ratio...I can see and feel this. No surging here.

When the car tries to control A/F Ratio on deceleration is when I get the surging...especially when it has just come out of "no injector" mode or is just about to go into "no injector" mode. I can see a relatively erratic A/F Ratio and feel a corresponding chugging or surging. This is all with no throttle and slowing down...almost always below 30 mph for me. It is the WORST after I initially let off the gas, the car shuts off the injectors after a couple of seconds, but turns them back on after a couple more seconds and the car has a hard time with the A/F ratio it wants to find...and on comes the surging.

    I hope this makes sense:)

    Let me know.
