    Pro Torque or Precision Torque

I know this has been brought up, but wanted to see what you guys would recommend on a Jeep. With my new mods: Stanko stage 3 heads, Stanko stage 2 manifold, Spartan Cam, Kooks headers, and borla exhaust.

I plan on going with a 2800 Stall but what is the difference between a regular 2800 stall and a tight 2800 stall?

If you can just tell me which torque converter you would choose and why?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the same one Steve (Stanko) has.

I take it the Jeeps half shafts are much stronger than ours? From what I've seen and read, if you go to a better TC, that has a good chance of snapping the half shafts? I guess there's been no problem with the Jeeps?

Ummm, well, not so sure about that. The Jeeps have much more aggressive torque management in 1st? as well as less than full throttle in 1st? I've got the impression that's primarily to protect the transfer case and maybe the front axles?

Steves had TWO Jeeps now. He'll know this.

They are both exceptional Torque Converters the Vigilante from Precision is supposed to be one hell of a TC. They are not cheap though. I have a Pro Torque and love it, I don't blow through it and were getting 1.84 60s out of a QCSB 5.7 1500 truck. So I'm a believer.

I had a 2800 Pro Torque in my SRT8 which saw me go a 12.8. Could not fault it. I have since changed over to a PI 3200 convertor for one reason only though. The PI are now built a little stronger than the PT convertors I believe and also have the option of an extra 3rd clutch pack installed.

A stupid question, but help out the half bread! What does the TC do exactly? Will it be a huge difference with the VORTECH?????????????

    I'm waiting damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I searched the topic and noticed most people recommend it and one thought you got more out of down shifting to first from a 20-25 mph roll???????

Don't kill the messanger here. Remember, I still trying to learn about the TC:worthy:

Basically your stall speed dictates what your engine revs to before the vehicle moves. So if you have a 3000 rpm stall converter the TC slips until 3000 rpms then it engages delivering power to the transmission at that rpm.

Ok...here is one for you guys....
Has anyone BROKEN a stock converter yet?
    BTW I'm using a 2600 ProTorque.

Reason for asking....strangely, one of the quickest LX's and the quickest Jeep are both using the same STOCK JEEP converter!
It is not the converter used behind the 6.1 however.

    Your thoughts?

Imagine how fast they would be with an aftermarket converter;)

We went from 11.6 on the stock converter to 11.2 with the PI coverter.

Honestly, buy from whoever you want to, but we have used the Pro-Torques, the APS, the PTC, the PI's, and even 2 experimental converters. I still go back to the PI every time. We were the first guys to ever hit a 1.5x 60 ft and to this day, our 1.51 is better than any other 60ft time in the country including the awd cherokees that are pulling tires off the ground. We are making less power than all the Power Adder guys, but our 60ft is what is giving us the edge. Even InferAl with his PI converter has hit 1.6x 60 fts with just heads/cam 5.7. No other 5.7 that I am aware of has a 60 ft in the 1.6x range. I have used them all and PI is by far the best converter on the market. My feelings will not be hurt if someone goes with another brand, it just means less competition for us. lol. Here is more food for thought. This is a list of the 4 fastest NA cars in the country.
    1. PPP (PI)
    2. Maurie (PI)
    3. Nathan (I think a stock v6 converter)
    4. Jack (PI)

3 of 4 are using the PI. All 4 of these cars are in the 1.6x 60ft range or better.
