Mike, How about a couple of sentences on ESP in the context of the canned tunes? (I've got an '06 SRT8 if it makes a difference) I am under the impression that ESP is disabled to some extent in the canned tunes (NOT the disable option in modify parameters). Something like pushing the dash button once? My understanding of the Stock ESP settings (using the ESP button on the dash): * Fully enabled * Partially disabled (single press and release) - Straight line traction control turned off. Lateral/directional control relaxed -- both threshold of intervention and degree of intervention. * Fully disabled (press and hold) - Straight line traction control turned off. Lateral/directional control turned off. ABS on. My understanding of the Predator 'disable ESP' option is that everything is turned off including ABS. What is the state of ESP set to in the canned DiabloSport tunes straight out of the box?
press *& hold????? How long? Did NOT know our Jeeps had that feature, only the single press and release. Bill
Bill the Jeeps don't . Chrysler didn't think the Jeeps could handle not having ESP fully disengaged. As for ESP disable in the Predator well that's just Doiablo copying the Emissions Rolls Function of the StarMobile/StarScan. Actually it's very bad to use when not strapped down to a dyno as it only sends a simulated signal to the front wheel sensors as read by the ABS module. Jeff
Here is the reply I got from Johan: The esp is affected due to the fact that it uses the same table for timing reduction as torque management uses, we limit the amount of timing it will remove due to tm, this also limits the spark allowed to pull for esp(when esp request is activated). Thanks Mike
Ok Mikkie L,,,,,,,,,, if that's the only thing that is effected why does the drivetrain bind up in turning the vehicle??? A person could never use that option full time. And that you recommend that it only be used if the vehicle is driven in a straight line?? J
Drive train on the Jeep??. This is not meant to be a hyjack Jeff. But something I noticed this past weekend. I finally used the Diablo to turn off ESP. SOTP tell me she slowed up drastically. Burn outs were much shorter, shifts weren't as precise, something funny going on and I need to figure out what it is. It was as though the functions were swapped. I drove my ride for more then a year with no ESP or ABS with my BnG, and the attributes are completely different. :shifty:
Jeff, you asked a very specific question in regards to ESP in the context of the canned tunes. The answer provided refers to the way ESP is set up in an unmodified canned tune. Now it seems you have changed the question, to what is the state of ESP when it is disabled through the Predator, am I following you? The ESP disable has nothing at all to do with our 'tune', as you can use the Predator to disable ESP without even applying a tune...
True that Cam, I haven't done a Can Bus sniff to see what bytes are sent out by the handheld, but I can't assume that Diablo had a "On/Off" switch for the ESP. Now I do know for a fact that the StMo has the ERM to do dyno runs to check emissions. I'm thinking the ESP function in the Duablo mimics that command. It would really mess with the Can Bus signals if the ABS was sending messed up signals to the PCM/TCM. Hence the feeling your vehicle was all screwwy. Jeff
So I wonder what Dave does differently. Well at least I still have my BnG intact. I may just have to borrow a starscan and reveiw both set-ups.
You guys are making it confusing for others flipping back and forth between the Jeeps and LXs... (context: LX) Ok. I understand the torque management reduction. This would explain why, for example, you can spin your tires longer with a canned tune. The tune reduces the torque management so you have more torque. Let's consider straight line traction control only. Stock, when you spin the rear tires, the PCM will reduce torque and then apply the brakes? With the tune you will have more torque (less reduction) so there will be less effect when the PCM applies the brakes. Right? Now for pushing the button to disable or partially disable ESC. Is it additive? Let's just say that (stock) if you floor it and spin the rear tires the PCM will reduce torque by 20%. Let's say that if you partially disable ESC with the button the PCM will reduce torque by only 10%. Let's say that the Diablo tune results in a torque reduction limit of 10%. So if you have the Diablo tune and partially disabled ESC with the button would you end up with 10% torque reduction or 0% torque reduction when you spin the rear tires? (did I get that across ok?)
i think so dave...... for me, with a tune from rdp, i do not experience much, if any, tire spin when the esp button on the dash is left UN pushed (on). if i push and hold the button (esp off), then i can spin the tires pretty freely.
