I just got this email thought I would share it with you..............

Heads up if you pay at the pump!
Subject: Alert from the Neighborhood Watch of Colorado Springs Police
    Department

Most of us use credit/debit cards at the gas pump. With the price of gas and people getting desperate, this is likely to occur more often. Please be careful out there! A co-worker used her credit/debit card to purchase gas at the pump (like
most of us do). She received her receipt like normal. However, when she checked her statement, there were 2 $50 charges added in addition to her purchase. Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the 'clear'
button on the pump, the employee inside the store was able to use her card to purchase his/her own gas! To keep this from happening, after you get your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your information will be stored until the next customer inserts their card. Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't happen to them!

Pay in cash... It was on the local news here a few weeks ago. At the Arco station I go to they (no, not the station, some crooks) had inserted those card reader chips in the slot. Most of the pumps only ask for your zip code for verification... most people are locals of course.

Sorry, but that is next to impossible.

First the pump used will time out (cancel transaction after a certain amount of time, usually 2 minutes, even if the pump is still in the filler).

Second, the card reader does NOT give the credit card information other than the last 4 digits of the card and the name on the card.

third, the employee does NOT have access to the credit card information or the means to get fuel after the pump has been hung up (properly).

Is that possible, yes. Is it likely NOPE!

Why do I know this, I used to Manage C-Stores. I currently am in the computer industry that ties into carwash and gas stations. One oor proprietaries is credit card processing. :)

    Hoax fo sho.

yeah, these stories are scare tactics. all the new stations that run card readers at the pump put limits on cards. i can only use 75 at a pump each day. learned that now because the stations limit cards at 75 bucks. if you drive a large vehicle (motorhome) you actually have to use two cards or just go to the next pump and use the same atm/credit card.

I have seen those limits reset....twice....

Since my Titan has a 28 gallon tank (as do most trucks these days) we would hit the 75 limit a lot and have to reset the pump and go again. Then, they reset the limit to 100 bucks. And now, recently, it cost 110 dollars to fill the tank, and the pump never stopped....
