Which do you prefer when drag racing? Letting the car shift to the next gear or tapping it quickly yourself? I have always let the car shift at the track using autostick but lately I have been trying to shift it quickly and pulling off third gear scratches regularly on the street...haven't tried it yet at the track.
ill put it in autostick so i can roll on the power in 1st without it shifting early into second, but i let it do all the shifting for me
I think that with my new tune with the higher shift points that it will shift as good as i would be able to cause im botarted....knowing me i'd just spin all the way through first if i tried to do it hahahahaha
You should add more options to the poll. auto upshift disabled and autostick (have to shift yourself) auto upshift enabled and autostick - shift yourself auto upshift enabled and autostick - car shifts automatic mode Does anyone do option 2? I'd think if you shift yourself you'd be shifting too soon. Somebody has to get a tuner to fess up whether the WOT shifting in automatic is any different than the automatic shifting in autostick.
The problem with option 2 IS trying to shift before the rev-limiter. This does usually cause an early shift, especially in 1-2 'cause it happens so quick. It seems to me that shifting is slightly lower under full throttle in Auto. I assume we could do this test by doing a full throttle run in Auto and another in Auto-Stick and record with the DashHawk.
Auto shift only. My shift points where raised to 6600 and rev-limiter to 7000 with my stock block. Only precise and consistant method there is.
Hal, so you`re tune allows you to shift at 6600? I have been trying to shift myself and it seems, or at least feels, like it's hitting the next gear harder, but I've hit the limiter on occasion. I guess I need to get it raised...you can't do this on the Predator handheld can you? Or is it in the modify parameters part?
I have a jeep so we cant raise our shift points and i have found out putting it in 1st gear in manual mode and let it shifts its self is better for me as some times in auto mode it would short shift from 1st to 2nd at 5500 instead 5900. Our shift points are 1st to 2nd 5900 and all other gears are at 6100.
I used to hit the rev limiter all the time with the Autostick Upshift Disabled and trying to shift it around 6400 rpms manually. My tune from Dynosteve has my Autoshift Enabled, but its not short shifting into 2nd gear like it used to do when I spin the tires in 1st gear with my other CMR tune. Steve must have changed something in the PCM or TCM to allow tirespin out of 1st gear and not have it shift early into 2nd gear. This is the main reason I Disabled the Autostick Upshift when I first got my Predator. Right know I have the best of both worlds...I can smoke the tires in 1st gear in Autostick and have it AutoUpshift into 2nd gear at 6400!!! Dynosteve's tune rocks!!!
I would figure if you saw a difference with the DashHawk in testing the 2 modes, at least you would know if there was one.
I'm not sure what you mean? The Predator can raise shift points - this would apply to both auto and automatic upshift autostick. IF you have the flash with automatic upshift in autostick mode (2007 and later and TSB flash before 2007) then the predator can disable that -- in autostick the trans will NOT upshift and will simply bounce off the rev limiter instead. For the automatic upshift disable it has to be done differently on different cars. I think it makes a difference on year, flash revision, whatever. So if you want to disable automatic upshift (remember this applies only to autostick mode) you would try mode 1 and see if that works. If it doesn't work then try mode 2. ...and mode 3. One of the modes should work for you. Are you saying that you tried all 3 modes and none of them will disable automatic upshift in autostick mode? What car do you have? What version of the Predator CROM do you have?
Like Dave said.... If your car is a 2006, and you have not had the TCM flashed to the "07 version, you will only have Auto-Stick that stays in each gear till you shift or it will hit the rev-limiter. Go to the dealer and tell him your car seems to have a sluggish 1-2 shift, like it is slipping. They will reflash your TCM to the latest rev. Now you will notice that in Auto-Stick the car will up-shift automatically before it hits the rev-limiter. Now the Predator options will also work. You can go back and forth between auto up-shift in Auto-Stick or manual up-shift only in Auto-Stick. You can also now use the "Raised Shift Points" option in the Predator. In Auto-Stick this will add 200-300 rpm before it up-shifts (it also raises the rev-limiter).
I miss my auto-upshift. I have the Mopar Performance TCM and it holds gears. No choice. My rev limiter is set at 6600 and I try and shift at 6400. Which means I hit it when I see it climb to 6000. Its taken me a ton of time to unlearn the auto upshift. But thats road racing though.
