8000hp Nitromethane injected engines tend to be vicious like that haha

    Guys.

This IS a temporary fix until they can finish up their investigation and do some testing for some new safety devices.

For the record ....i am not angry with them....i was surprised to see them move so quickly in implementing it though

any of us would crap our pants if we were in one of those cars for the first time so those guys know what it will take to make things safer for them....

short of slowing these cars down....what else can they do besides maybe do a NHRA designed safer barrier sorta thing and longer shutdown areas?

I wasn't directing my comment to any ONE person, just in general.

Sometimes our emotions cloud our judgement in seeing the real benefits. :)

There are MANY tracks that NHRA runs on that are not designed to have a car go 250 mph, let alone 300+ mph. I think this is part of NHRA's and the Drivers concerns are.

On other boards, the members are thinking that it will also affect our Test and Tune days as well.

NOPE! This temporary safety change is for Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars ONLY!

Let's support our Dragracers from NHRA and hope that safety implimentations will soon come so that we can continue to see these bad mama jamma's run top speeds through the 1320.

Well I for one am pissed off there are people blaming the race track!Englishtown is one of the best track I have ever seen. The shutdown area is longer than most any track I have been on and the tech and safety is much stricter that any track I have seen.Probably because the NJ State Police run the track.

    Like I said.....
    It doesn't make sense
How does ths effect the record books?
How does it effect the current point standings. I mean... How do you comapre full 1/4 mile wins to now 1/4-1000' times?
A lot of cars win in the last few feet.

They can still run fast...yes...but now they now have an extra 1000 foot to stop. But still read the above.

this is the point that i think is THE main issue for some of the drivers from what i am reading. unfortuantely the nhra has known about this, but until something tragic happens, they tend to be more reactionary than precautionary imo. the nhra is not unlike any other governing body..... remember when earnhart died??? suddenly nascar was mandating hans devices for all drivers. good thing to do, but the issue was there before earnhart died. point is, until the nhra has a chance to evaluate ALL the venues it runs on and can make the necessary changes for safety, they are doing what they can in the interim. just my 2 cents!

I got an even better idea...
How about a HUGE pool of water (or water/sand) that the car runs into the SIDE of.
Tihs is similar to the barrels of water at some highway exit ramps.... but on a WAY larger scale, .
Let the water cushion the blow. Sure there will be sort of a mess to clean up, but not quite as bad with proper drainage, and worth the life it saves.
The water load will quench any flame also.

I am reading this and checking the calendar to see if it is April 1st. Are ya'll serious???? Did they REALLY shorten the races? duh? If they do, I hope they allow wider tires and open up some restrictions they have had. A shorter race could be good if they go unlimited.

hes got the idea though....think of it as a MASSIVE MASSIVE safer barrier thats MUCH softer and has much more give....i think hes onto something though....something has to be done that can slow these cars down quickly...but not IMMEDIATELY

dont some of the tracks have an uphill (slightly) shutdown area?

fireproof shoots would be huge though....and shoots that can be remotely deployed by a crew member in the event (like in scotts crash) where his initial explosion more than likely knocked him unconscious

Yeah....don't foget I said HUGE, and if the water was circulated it would "break resistance" easier.

There are sand pits, but they are not uphill (at this speed the uphill would probably have to be 1/16 mile to keep from "launching") or and the sand was probably not "loose" enough to pull a car down at that speed.
As I understand in the accident that started this, he was still traveling so fast he "skirted' across the top of the sand, and "blew through" the obviously not well designed "catch net".
But a water barrier, somewhere in this line up of defenses, would have kept him out of the trees and smothered the "fire ball" that erupted when he went into the trees.
